+Child of Hodor Posted April 10, 2019 Posted April 10, 2019 Was Urithiru built low to the ground and moved to the mountains later? Is that why Nohadan could walk there? Quote tWoK Ch. 34 & 45 epigraphs. "I walked from Abamabar to Urithiru." "Though many wished Urithiru to be built in Alethela, it was obvious that it could not be. And so it was that we asked for it to be placed westward, in the place nearest to Honor." Quote My family traveled to Urithiru via the direct method, and had been awaiting me for weeks when I arrived. I was not recognized at the gate, for my mane had grown quite robust without a razor to tame it. https://coppermind.net/wiki/The_Way_of_Kings_(in-world)#Excerpts The epigraph seems to use placed and built interchangeably, so maybe it doesn't mean anything and it was built on the mountain originally. It seems like it would be easier to build it lower down where there is more air pressure and it is warmer and then move it via magic. Easier in the sense that you would be easier to feed and keep alive the workers. Even if it was soulcast it is still a lot of work to get the material shaped correctly to form all those hallways and ventilation shafts. That last excerpt is a little odd. Why would they have a city gate at Urithiru besides the oathgates if it is in the mountains? Why would there be guards to an ordinary city gate if it is virtually unreachable except through magic? Is it a gate to the caverns underneath that were mentioned once?
Wintersu Posted April 10, 2019 Posted April 10, 2019 In the dream sequence when Nohadon is older, he mentions that he walked to the caverns of Urithiru. Those caverns are also mentioned when Shallan scares off the midnight mother. They find the cave system down to the valley Taking both of those into consideration, I would say it was already on the Mountaintop when Nohadon walked there 1
Karger he/him Posted April 10, 2019 Posted April 10, 2019 Perhaps he simply used the foot access to Urithiru. We know their is one. His family could have used the Oathgates.

I think that it's highly likely that they did, given that Dream Nohadon claims that his family took "the direct route" which seems to heavily imply the Oathgates
ScavellTane Posted April 11, 2019 Posted April 11, 2019 He need not climb the mountain. He could have crossed over to Shadesmar where he would emerge at a level plane to the Oathgates and then cross back to the PR.
earthexile Posted April 11, 2019 Posted April 11, 2019 He seems to have been a Surgebinder. He could very well have walked up the cliffs.
