"Because it makes dogs feel more comfortable," Dan said, "and it also makes some people more relaxed. You looked stressed, and my dog-instincts told me to lick you to calm you down."

He nodded, humming. "Okay... thank you..." He relaxed on him, just sort of laying there and feeling happier than he had in a while- easy to do when you've just come out of a nightmare and found what amounts to a dream waiting for you.

[Sherlock Holmes he/him]

"Hmm," Dan said, relaxing back and feeling strangely comfortable with Shae's weight on top of him.

Shae looked up at him, something else occurring to him to ask. "So... you do like it when... I'm shirtless...?" He blushed slightly, but didn't stop looking at him for an answer.

[Sherlock Holmes he/him]

“Yeah, you have attractive muscles, and those scars,” Dan said. He really did think that Shae’s scars were sexy, but he probably wouldn’t get away with saying that.

He blushed, looking down at Dan's chest as he thought about that. "Okay... I-I... I'll try to be... shirtless more often around you. If it makes you happy..." He hoped it did.

[Sherlock Holmes he/him]

“I just think that you’re prettier like that,” Dan said, “but if you’re uncomfortable with being shirtless, then don't take your shirt off.” He did like seeing Shae’s chest, but if Shae didn’t like it, then it would just make Dan feel like a bad person.

Shae smiled. "The you go thinking about me again..." He felt warm inside. Happy. "I don't mind, if we aren't in front of other people. Moments like this... I'm okay with that. If you want, at least..." He hugged him, smiling as he did so. His limbs were beginning to let him know how sore they were, so he didn't push it and squeeze Dan, but he still hugged him.

“In which case,” Dan said carefully, “then yes, I do like it when you’re shirtless.” He hugged Shae back.

He blushed, smiling. He lay there for a minute, then asked once more question. "Do you really like my scars...?" He didn't know if he could really believe that.

He stared up at him, confused. "Why...?"

Dan tried to shrug, then just made a ‘I don’t know’ face. “I guess they just make you look tougher. I don’t like soft, pampered guys. You’ve been beaten up before, and I think it makes you a stronger person.”

He nodded, smiling slightly. "Alright... I guess that makes sense. Thank you..." He hummed, smiling. Then a thought occurred to him. "How are you going to act on my birthday?"

[Sherlock Holmes he/him]

“Like I always act,” Dan said, “but maybe a little happier. Wait, when’s your birthday?”

He bit his lip. "Well... I usually celebrate when the leaves first start turning colors. I know it was the first day of autumn back where I was born, but... this is a completely different world. I don't know how to tell thr exact date... it's worked well enough so far. Why?"

[Sherlock Holmes he/him]

Dan made a shrugging face again. “Just wondering, since it’s late summer right now... so we can celebrate in a month or something. Say, how old are you?” He was guessing sixteen or seventeen, maybe eighteen.

He hummed. "Nineteen. And... Yeah. We would probably celebrate in a month or two. How old are you?"

[Sherlock Holmes he/him]

“Seventeen,” Dan mumbled quietly. Well... I mean... isn’t Dusk eight years older than Wereci? Almost three years don’t matter much in comparison to that, right? He didn’t know why he cared so much how old Shae was, but seriously the guy acted younger than that.

Shae looked at him. "Dan? Are you okay? You don't seem happy... I'm sorry if I'm older than you thought..." He felt... bad. He didn't like the idea that Dan might not want him because he was older than him. He'd honestly thought Dan was older than him- he acted like he was an adult, most of the time. 

[Sherlock Holmes he/him]

“Dating a guy who acts younger than me but is actually older is just new,” Dan said. It was more weird than new, honestly, but he’d get used to it.

He nodded, chuckling. "Dating someone younger than me that acts older than me is new for me too." He hummed. "Does it bother you?"

[Sherlock Holmes he/him]

Yes. “A little bit, but I’ll get used to it. Besides, you’re not that much older than me. Uh, does it bother you?”

He shook his head. "I don't think it really could. You're the first person I've ever seen romantically. As far as I know, this is normal. Besides, I don't think anything about you could bother me, I'm too fond of you." 

[Sherlock Holmes he/him]

“We’ll see about that,” Dan muttered. “And, if this is normal in your opinion, then it’s cold with me. Cold is like saying cool, if you were wondering. Also, you’re fond of me? Yaaaay. That wasn’t supposed to sound sarcastic, sorry.”
