Pathfinder Posted February 16, 2019 Report Share Posted February 16, 2019 So I personally am not taking part in this whatsoever. I am an unbiased third party posting a thread for each party. The purpose of this is to foster discussion. This thread is for those that like Adolin and would like to say why. Those that do not like Adolin need not apply. I understand that there will be those that feel forums are for discussing disparate viewpoints and posting a thread focused on one viewpoint is nothing more than an echo chamber. That is fine, I respect that. However, the purpose of this thread is for those who have a view to share it and feel heard. Not saying I believe they have or have not been heard elsewhere. Merely stating that is the sole purpose of this thread and as per Chaos’s post in another thread, and I quote: “There are so many threads anyone can make! Here are some example topic titles that one could use: Why I don’t like Adolin Why I like Adolin” So I take the head moderator stating it is ok to post a topic as license to post said topic. If you do not like that this thread does not allow opposing opinions, you do not need to lodge your complaint here. Simply do not post. If you do not like Adolin, there is another thread I have posted, that is the same as this word for word. Feel free to post there. Also please do not respond to points made on the other post here. That is passive aggressive. Just state your own views, and discuss your views with others here. I have even taken the time to type both threads out in word, open two windows in the 17th shard, and paste and press the button to post at the same time to be as utterly unbiased to either side as possible. I have listed below some common thoughts on why people like Adolin to get the conversation started. If I have misrepresented your views, feel free to comment correcting me and say why. I am now going out to a nice dinner with my wife to celebrate Valentine’s Day. I have tagged @Chaos so he can be made aware of the existence of both threads. Have fun! 1. There is so much deeper to Adolin as a character 2. He felt conflicted after killing Sadeas 3. Adolin has worked for and appreciated everything in his life 4. I'm not saying this to snub him, but he's one of the last characters of importance that's not a radiant. So this will be really hard to do because spren take on Radiants that would be best suited for their orders. Furthermore, WoB says Radiant spren congregate around other Radiants and their families. Which I think is a super interesting story, and I also feel like a deadeye being revived is something that needs to happen because I feel like there was more going on with the Recreance then we know about, and because it would be a huge game changer for relations between spren and humans. Greywatch she/her Posted February 17, 2019 Report Share Posted February 17, 2019 Anyway, I do have a lot of words in me about why I like Adolin and I was thinking about writing a long post about him in one of the various topics, but here's a short version for now. I've loved him since WoK, and his relationship with Dalinar has always been one of the most engaging things about his character. (The bit where at the very end of WoK and Sadeas has just betrayed them and Adolin has to say, "I told you!" and Dalinar just yells back, "Okay, I KNOW!" never fails to make me laugh.) He's just a warm, friendly guy who really likes people and people like him back. He's easygoing, he can and does win people over just by being That Nice. His and Kaladin's relationship going from "ehhh I don't like or trust that guy" in WoK to the way they thought about each other so admiringly in OB has been one of the most satisfying developments in the books for me, and I'm so excited to see where that goes next (I ship it!). He loves his family a lot, and they are clearly his most important relationships, and that's started to expand to cover new Kholin and Kholin-adjacent people - Shallan and Kaladin and hopefully soon some Bridge Four folks. He has a lot of heart and willingness to reach out to people, and it's such a great trait of his. Him and Jasnah seem very similar as they both evidently care greatly about the safety of their family and are willing to go to lengths to protect them. And him and Maya is very, very sweet.
