Indeed, why not!

Nearly ten hours in now, been playing it a lot.  Not far in with the story.  Did a LOT of grinding the second I could.  I'm glad im not playing with permanent death.  Caspar is like a death magnet for me.  He's died in five of my seven battles that I did, lol.

Blyeth - Dark Bishop (I just wanted to try it out and I've already maxed out his personal classes and Mortal Savant)

Leonie and Shamir - Bow Knights. Leonie is supported by Dark Knight Lorenz.

Regrets: Not changing Byleth to Dark Mage sooner

So two things about this. First did I read this correctly that you had two people using dark seals? Or is this from two different playthroughs? I am on chapter 3 or 4, but I read a really clever trick for getting the dark seal at chapter 6 without having to kill the death knight. Basically kill every other enemy on the map, leaving the death knight and one enemy alive. Have your thief steal the dark seal from the death knight, and then kill that other unit before the death knight can retaliate.

Ok, so I'm glad I'm not the only one who had that experience. I'm also playing through on casual, and Caspar just was not that great of a unit.

What builds did you both have for him? That was Bernadetta in the beginning for me, because I switched her from bow and arrow, to sword to go myrmidon to mercenary to get vantage. The goal is to go crit machine with low HP, possibly ending up as Wyvern Lord or Falcon Knight. At first a tap would almost kill her. Had to have a healer near by constantly and support ready to move in front of her to protect her. Now that she hit mercenary, she hit her stride

I went Brigand for Caspar. He just didn't ever have the range of anyone else, so he ended up pretty underleveled compared to the rest of my party. He ended up as an adjunct(?) for the majority of my playthrough.

Ah I gotcha. I'm going armored knight with him, so I think that helps with his survivability.

That's the route I went with Edelgard, I found it fit her pretty well.

I only used the Dark Seals on one person. I actually tried that trick on my Blue Lions playthrough this morning! I was going to steal the seal and then move out of the way of the Deak Knight; and if that didn't work I'd kill the boss before the Death Knight could attack...unfortunately my thief - Byleth - wasn't fast enough to out-speed (and therefore steal from) the Death Knight. But I've learned from that mistake.

I am still deciding where I want to take Edelgard. Ironically enough I never get interested in building the primary character, nor the "hero". The personal skills of extra exp never really interest me lol. Though Edelgard's hidden talent increasing her avoid with black magic makes me contemplate mortal savant for her.

Hmmm, thanks for the heads up. I made Petra my thief. I have to check out her speed stat. Hopefully it is enough. If not, then I guess im going Death Knight hunting lol. I really want Hubert to end up a Dark Knight. So when you get the dark seal, if I use it to turn him into a dark mage, can I think progress him through the others (dark bishop, dark knight), or do I need to get a dark seal from the death knight each time to progress it?

You need two dark seals. One to unlock Dark Mage, another for Dark Bishop. Dark Knight doesn't require a Dark Seal (confusing I know). It just needs Lance, Reason, and Riding.

How do you get a second dark seal? I thought you could only get one.

Edit: Nvm, I misread. When they said only one person could go that tree, I assumed only one seal. Now I see you can get more than one. Thanks!

NG+ Blue Lions Run Update: Have to do Chapter 6 again...because I messed up and killed that final enemy before stealing the Dark Seal from the Death Knight.

Students transferred to my class: Lysithea, Lorenz, Dorothea, Bernadetta, Marianne

Soon to be recruited: Petra (I just finished her B support before the mission), Caspar (I'm at B support level with him, but the game won't let me see it at the moment), Ferdinand (He's assisting me on this month's mission, and I've done some training/paralogues to help gain supports. I'm at C but I think it'll soon be...B...)

Next on the list: Lindhart, Leonie, Raphael, Ignatz(?). NG+ lets me use renown to raise support levels, so I'm not worried about the Golden Deer peeps.

Other units recruited: Catherine, Shamir, Cyril. They were easy to recruit since they basically join due to the story, so.

Other unites desired: Manuela, Hanneman, Gilbert, Seteth. Not sure how to get the first three, but I assume I just ask them to join me...?

TL;DR: I'M SAVING EVERYONE I CAN* Y'ALL.

*I'm torn on Hilda because I don't want Claude to be completely alone...

Story and character update: I'm really enjoying BL!

Dimitri is a noble youth so far, and I find myself respecting his ideals. He's very different from Claude, but I could see the two really getting along as real friends. Dedue, while his supports are pretty Duscur focused, at least shows the complexity of racism and mob mentality in a light FE hasn't really done since PoR.

Felix is Felix - I recruited him on my GD run so I know his character relatively well.

Ingrid - My best friend told me that Ingrid had some of the worst growth rates in the game. Mine has been RNG blessed so far then. Her supports have been pretty simple so far, but I'm only at C level with most of them.

Sylvain - Now here's a character I thought I'd hate. He's a jerk, but he's also a good person with a weird yet understandable view on flirting and Crests. It reminds me of Inigo from Awakening (in the sense that there's a reason for the flirting).

Ashe - Like Felix, I already know most of his life due to recruitment.

Annette - I knew I loved her from her food song on the FE website, but now I get to use her and yeah, she's awesome.

Mercedes - Her voice grated on me at first, but after learning about her character I really, really like her. She and Sylvain are too good together.

Overall ranking of the Lords so far though: 1) Claude. Unique specialty in bows, and his other promotions are SO FREAKING COOL. 2) Dimitri. I like his ideals and Part 2 design. 3) Edelgard. This is mostly because I haven't had the chance to play her as of yet, and I'm saving her route for last.

Honorable choice, good sir or madame. I, for some silly reason, did not NG+ my Blue Lions run, and therefore, have not been able to save my Black Eagle children yet, because of their oddly specific demands for joining me. I don't know what I'll do otherwise...

Def. gonna NG+ my Golden Deer  run.

Got the dark seal! Had to grind Petra a little to make sure her speed was higher than the death knight, but it worked like a charm. Hubert is now a dark mage! So he is going to be an epic debuffer via cutting down the enemy's defense, immobilizing them, and taking 20 percent off of their lives with every attack! Only problem is his magic is so high, he tends to kill them outright lol. Ferdinand is doing awesomely as a brawler. His extra avoid at full HP has made him almost impossible to hit. Dorothea still needs sometime to hit her stride, as I am having her go white magic till dancer to buff people. Linhardt is an epic healer, though I am aiming to make him a heal tank with nosferatu (giving him tomefaire, and white tomefaire, coupled with his crest that occasionally increased the might of his white magic). Bernadetta is starting to come along. Waiting to get her vantage and then I can really open her up.

Blue Lions Post timeskip spoilers

Spoiler

Ok, so killing Bernadetta and Ferdinand has been one of the most guilt-inducing things I've ever done in a video game. They didn't deserve to die, but no, I just had to kill all the enemy commanders!

I have officially recruited everyone but Seteth (I assume he'll join post time-skip? I totally forgot when he joined in my GD run) and Ferdinand (THE GAME WON'T LET ME B SUPPORT HIM YET. IT'S THE END OF FEBRUARY. I DON'T HAVE TIME TO NOT B SUPPORT HIM). Even Hilda. Some characters (Ignatz, Cyril, Hanneman, Alois, and Manuela, potentially Ashe) won't be trained beyond an A support. Others will be on a rotating roster. Not sure about Catherine yet.

Wait, you recruited every student? (Also yes, Seteth is post time skip)

Figured I'd Share my Blue Lions final class choices

Dimitri- Great Lord (Man is he a beast. And no, I don't mean it like that, Felix)

Felix- Mortal Savant (Made use of his budding talent for reason, and now he is destroyer of worlds)

Ashe- Bow Knight (His strength and crit rate is insane)

Ingrid- Falcon Knight (She's become a crit monster)

Jasnah(Byleth)- Enlightened One (Cause why the heck not?)

Sylvain- Dark Knight (Also incredible with the Lance of Ruin from his Paralogue)

Mercedes- Gremory (She has the POWAHH)

Annette- Warlock (Just the natural fit)

Catherine- Why would she not be a swordsmaster?

Seteth- Wyvern Lord (Soon, soon)

Flayn- Dancer (All around good support unit)

Gilbert- Fortress Knight (Although I hope to have him as a Great Knight soon)

I just got to the BL timeskip. I recruited everyone possible but Ferdinand (I guess my stats weren't high enough...?). Hopefully I can recruit him post-timeskip. If not...I'll get him next time.

I was never able to get Gilbert, is it a house thing?

AFAIK, you can't, really. If/when you meet former students in battle and you recruited them pre-timeskip, you have to option of sparing them (or at least that's how it worked for me on my GD run).

In terms of Ferdinand, it was weird. I got to a B support level with him, but the game wouldn't allow me to read it, so I guess it's a post-timeskip support. But since I couldn't get that support, and I didn't level up the skills he wanted, I missed my chance of recruiting him. I'm hoping this is not the case and the support level I do have with Ferdinand will let me recruit him when I face him in battle; but if not, I'll just focus on Heavy Armor in my next playthroughs - which will be my BE runs - so that the next time I'm doing GD or BL, I'll be able to recruit him.

So it seems i have been going unintentionally handicapped. I have been so focused on building the characters I have set up, that I have not made any real effort to recruit anyone from any of the other houses. Add to that I plan to make the choice that will alienate 90 percent of the neutral characters lol, and I pretty much going black eagle exclusive. Every map so far has had one empty square where I assume I could have fit another character lol. I do aim to get Shamir because it seems she won't care about the choice, but otherwise looks like pure black eagle. Ironically enough the focus has made my characters pretty powerful. So maybe my accidental handicap turned into a bonus? Only time will tell when I get to the harder maps lol.

Just finished the Blue Lion Route. Lemme just say: Wow. Unless pure Black Eagles or Golden Deer surpass it, this is easily my favorite route in this game. Solid storytelling, emotional stakes, deep and nuanced characters. *Chef Kiss* Perfect.
