Argei
Shardblades are sprens that "died" after their... wielders?... companions broke their oath. Now, biochromatic breath can awaken anything which had been alive bot no longer is (ignore for now the steel awakening). I get that "sprens never really die", as Syl said, but would that state allow an awakener to invest them with breath? I think that they may not come "back" to life (I love this universe complexity, but technicalities are getting annoying), but maybe they would answer to some specific commands? Like the radiant's spren shapeshifting? (Kinda like "adopt the form of a pole axe" and then it changes). Thoughts? +Invocation
It would take an absolutely immense amount of Breath to do anything with a dead Shardblade, and it's pretty much impossible to do anything with a living one, for one main reason: the more Invested something is, the more it resists other Investiture. Heavily Invested objects (and Shardblades are some of the most Invested things in the Cosmere, though there's a few things that are higher on that scale) resist everything being done to them with other Investiture unless designed to accommodate the other Investiture, which is hard to do.
Weltall
Brandon has actually said straight out that Awakening will not work on a dead Shardblade. Quote Questioner [PENDING REVIEW] If you were to try and Awaken a dead Shardblade with Awakening, like you can with a metal sword, would that be possible, or what would happen? Brandon Sanderson [PENDING REVIEW] That would probably not work. Not probably. That would just not work. Orem signing (Dec. 21, 2017) He's also said that as far as BioChroma is concerned, Shardblades and Plate are already 'Awakened' due to the way the magic works. Oh, and welcome to the Shard!
