Atium he/him Posted January 13, 2019 Posted January 13, 2019 Could there have been a shard on Ashyn and could humans, using surgebinding, have splintered this shard and created the dawnshards? If so, could the shard have been responsible for the floating cites and when it was splintered could it have caused the cities to fall. I don't know the size, the number of or the height of these cites but if they were large enough and high enough they could have caused the cataclysm. If what I said above is true, could the splinters be kept in gemstones on Aimia and could the Sibling be one of these splinters? 1
+Invocation Posted January 13, 2019 Posted January 13, 2019 The magic on Ashyn came from the over-spill of the Shards on Roshar, but there was not one on Ashyn itself. Quote Green Hoodie Mistborn (paraphrased) Is there only 1 Shard on Silence Divine? Brandon Sanderson (paraphrased) Yes. Footnote: This question must have been incorrectly paraphrased. There is no Shard on Ashyn.source 2
ND103 Posted January 14, 2019 Posted January 14, 2019 TBF, the OP did say that they splintered the shard to make the dawn shards which isn't inconsistent with this WoB. It's still unlikely. But this WoB doesn't prove it one way or the other.
Dalakaar he/him Posted January 14, 2019 Posted January 14, 2019 I believe the Dawnshards are directly related to Odium in some way. Basing loosely off these things: - Odiums interesting visual ascetic. - Possible real world inspiration being a rarely heard name for Satan, Son of the Morning/Daystar. (A personal fav) - Dawnshards being confirmed powerful enough to destroy a world. Certainly nothing concrete but a pet theory of mine nonetheless. I am also guessing that the Dawnshard(s) are in Aimia and are responsible or partially responsible for Aimia's destruction.
Ripheus23 Posted January 14, 2019 Posted January 14, 2019 A Shard on Ashyn would have astonished Ash so much that a she-Herald would've become a shattered shell. [I want to say something about a Sho Del and a Sureblood and a Shin cameo but, hmm...] Storm you whoever posted that alliteration thing elsewhere
Subvisual Haze Posted January 14, 2019 Posted January 14, 2019 I think Ambition's wounded shard may have temporarily hid on Ashyn. Between Arcanum Unbound and some WOBs, I think it might have played out like: Ambition starts out in the Threnody system. Odium attacks very early on, Ambition is severely wounded and flees leaving chaotic chunks of her power behind on Threnody. Odium can't find Ambition to finish her off, so he detours through Sel and splinters Dominion and Devotion. Ambition hides on Ashyn, hoping the close proximity to Honor+Cultivation will hide her. Odium discovers the location of Ambition, arrives in system to finish her off. He has no real plan to mess with Honor+Cultivation at this time. Ambition is wounded again, magical catastrophe strikes Ashyn, surviving humans seek shelter on Roshar. Unexpectedly Honor rises to Ambition's defense, now Odium is stuck on Braize by Honor+Cultivation's powers. Ambition leaves the system for parts unknown, is later finished off by an unknown 3rd part This chain of events would neatly tie up many tricky WOBs. Ashyn does not have a shard now, nor did it when Cultivation and Honor settled in the system. A shard could have briefly passed through though.
