Silas let out a dark laugh. "If you'd have met him, you would remember him. About 7'10", his hair adds about a foot and a half more to that height, storming insane, you know, just your average guy. He has a kill order on our daughters. If I don't turn myself in to him, he kills them and likely you too."

She took the letter and handed him some crysts, before she closed the door again.

Althea read the note, paused and read it again. She walked back into the kitchen while reading it a third time, disbelief and sorrow showing on her face. She crumbled the note in her hand, a helpless gesture, her knuckles turning white as she closed her fingers around the paper. Imagine it someone else, a body she reached out for, slamed her will against its defenses its identity, destroyed it. Then she took the plates and forks, and walked back to the dining table and placed them on the table, beefore flattening the notice out again, for Max and Devaan to read. She sat down and stared at the table, tried to grasp to understand what had happened.
“They were mine to protect.”
She whispered and covered her eyes with her hand.
“I should have known.”
Her voice sounded strange almost empty as she tried to calm down, to regain control. Her hand found the small device she usually used to contact Zokora and she noticed the woman had written another message. Anthony Nightshade at Oasis? She considered it for a moment and then typed a short message.

Locate Vesuvius & Benson. Lusk can handle the gov alone.

Devaan sighed, staring at the letter. He brought out his own, the one he received earlier.

”I had to hand Benson over, but not before I put a tracker in him. It was the only way to save the kids”

Devaan looked at Althea 

“I thought I was dealing with a man who could be reasoned with. I now understand. I’ll put him down myself” 

“Do you mind if I get access to citizen records in OASIS? I’d like to visit the families soon.”

Devaan looked at Althea

"It's my responsibility to tell the families. But you can come along if you wish to."

She replied almost softly. He'd known, and hadn't told her? Why? What were his reasons, there - She stopped herself, she'd decided to trust him and so she would.

"You can take him down though. Max already offered to help me kearn how to wield a weapon, but until then - I guess the chance that you kill him is better than if I try."

Althea put a piece of cake on their plates, took a bite and thought about Vesuvius.

"But if possible, tell me when you leave. I'm not sure yet, but maybe I'd like to accompany you."

Max looked at the letters with wide eyes, feeling a pit in his stomach. He was still a Ghostblood member, but truthfully he had been out of the loop for most events dealing with it. But this, children? He looked to Althea and she looked devastated. So he put a tight arm around her to comfort her, and hoped she wouldn’t mind the contact in front of Devaan. The cake sat in front of him, still, and Max used one spoon to scoop up some of his slice, an empty gesture.

“This... Vesuvius,” Max asked, slowly. “Does he have Hemalurgy?”

Althea followed Max gesture, leaned against him, her head on his shoulder. A part of her cringed at Devaan watching, but a larger part was glad to be close to Max, to accept his comfort.

"I don't know."

She answered.

"I'll have someone look through our reports, maybe we know something about him."

She fell silent waited for Devaan to answer, ignoring the part where he'd slapped himself. Two souls in one body, that was prone to end up complicated.

Max nodded. He hadn’t used Sethramir in a while.

And the armour? No, definitely not. He wouldn’t follow down that road again. He’d buried the rusted thing in the basement and he’d never went for it again. It just hung, continuous, on its stand. Like a ghoul, watching.

“We should probably look into that,” Max said, channeling his inner Canton Head of Operations. “Hemalurgy is something I have some degree of control over. This Vesuvius, he’s either got no emotions or he’s got really twisted ones. That’ll be easy to manipulate.”

“How exactly did he... take out all these children?”

Max looked at Devaan slapping himself and would’ve chuckled if not for the current situation. Hellbent, like a kid. Max shook his head, looking back at the letters.

Max stared blankly ahead, at the memory Althea gave him of a tall man with a bored expression. And half of his body was metal. So, no obvious spikes, unless the entire metal half counted as one.

Althea took his hand, tightened her fingers around his comfortingly.

"He seemed to know what he was doing. We should prepare for all kinds of technological traps. But that's good. I can dispose of most technology easily."
