Theory: Mraize is more than one guy

Recommended Posts

I randomly thought about Mraize last night and came up with a question: how can he be Ialais right hand soldier (which he kinda seems to be) and still have time to go as he pleases? As the leader (ish) of the group of Ghostbloods in Urithiru he will have to host shady meetings, assassinate people, write Shallan letters filled with Coppermind info, lay traps for random Heralds, feed his bird and worldhop, all at wierd times. So how does he do this without blowing his cover?

Well, there are more than one of him.

I admit that this is a pretty lousy theory, and that I don’t have any evidence for it other than Mraizes hectic schedule. But please, give your thoughts, if you have any!

I've always had a thought that he could be a Dysian Amian.

Take the picture of Arclo on the Coppermind, reduce the 'obvious critter' portion of it, and you could easily have the picture of a man 'covered in scars.'

Would explain how he is so good at obtaining information.  His cremlings can sneak just about anywhere, all at the same time.

Ialai isn't nearly as smart as she thinks she is and so it's not that hard for Mraize to sneak around being suspicious right under her nose?

And Amaram is the real 'right hand man' for Sadeas' forces once he arrives in the city so Mraize isn't really tasked with all that responsibility in his 'public' persona and most of what we know he's up to can be done from his rooms, sending orders out for other people to do the grunt work.

Ialai, despite her many fault, doesn't seem to be the type to micromanage. I imagine she tells Mraize what she wants done and aside from that he is pretty much free to do as he pleases. Since he seems to have gained her trust, I think he would be fine so long as he got results and was there when she needed him.

Besides his work for the Ghostbloods seems to be primarily as a coordinator, we have never seen him "in the field" outside of working with Ialai and finding Ash so as long as his people come to him under the guise of House Sadeas business he will probably be fine.

I like Mraize a lot, but that doesn't necessarily mean that we need a "Being Mraize Malkovitch" type situation.

I think that his capabilities are much more easily explained with something that's been hinted at throughout SLA, namely that he is turning himself into a superbeing through collecting different cosmere investitures. The pinning of the Dysian Aimian cremling during the Ghostblood meeting with Shallan in the Unclaimed Hills is weak (but I think still compelling) proof that he might have enough breaths to have achieved the Life Sense heightening. I don't think I have to mention his trophy case, but I'll go ahead and mention it, he's got a trophy case filled with invested cosmere items.

I like the simpler explanation that he is a super capable individual, bent on acquiring power, information, and influence in service to opaque and inscrutable ends rather than he has a hidden twin, or triplets or septuplets. It's an interesting idea, but he's such an incredible antagonist(?) as he is, why muddy the waters?

But just to engage in fun random speculation, I think it would be awesome if he has been to scadrial and has spiked himself with Feruchemical Steel, that's the perfect allomantic ability for an apex predator.

Another fun stolen power for him to have would be F-Nicrosil. The ghostbloods are nothing if not enterprising, I'm sure they have there own stable of Fabrial scientists, and it would be pretty awesome to be a human battery that could ensure that even during the Weeping your painrial never runs out of juice.
