little wilson she/her Posted May 10, 2014 Posted May 10, 2014 So, Eric. I've been having an issue with the mobile version of the site. In regular chrome, I can't sign in. I click the little interface button and nothing happens. I also can't get into the full version of the site either. I click that button and it jumps me to the top of whatever page I happen to be on. When I go incognito, I have no problems. I'm not sure what the problem is, but I'd like to use the mobile version, preferably not on incognito, because I have to sign back in whenever I go to a different app. And that gets a little irritating after signing in 7 times. Even if chrome has my sign-in info saved... Has anyone else had this problem? Have you had this problem, Eric? (Not that I think it's the phone. I don't. It happened about 50% of the time on my Galaxy as well.)
Delightful Posted May 10, 2014 Posted May 10, 2014 My phone won't allow me to edit, quote, or access the full site, but I've used other mobile devices without an issue, and I've never had a problem logging in. I've never tried going incognito either.
Swimmingly he/him Posted May 10, 2014 Posted May 10, 2014 I've had this issue as well. I think the problem is that the "full version" link goes to the site again, and your phone recognizes the address and loads it from the cache instead of the server, because the site hasn't registered any changes since it was updated in your cache. You can fix it by clearing the cache. Cheers! 1
Eerongal he/him Posted May 10, 2014 Posted May 10, 2014 Generally, anytime something works in incognito but not in non-incognito it's because of an issue with the site's cookies. Clearing your cache/cookies like swimmingly mentions should generally fix it. The reason why it works in incognito but not in normal mode is because incognito mode doesnt use or save any sort of cache or cookies or anything.
little wilson she/her Posted May 11, 2014 Author Posted May 11, 2014 That worked with my old phone. This is a brand new device though. I've had it less than a week, and I've never been able to access the site in regular mode. Even the first time I tried to get on the site. The cache was the first thing I went to when it wouldn't work, but there wasn't anything to clear. :/
Swimmingly he/him Posted May 11, 2014 Posted May 11, 2014 What model? Can you access it with a different browser?
little wilson she/her Posted May 11, 2014 Author Posted May 11, 2014 Nexus 5. Not sure? I could no doubt download a different browser, but I haven't yet. I'm sort of a fan of Chrome.
GreyPilgrim he/him Posted May 12, 2014 Posted May 12, 2014 Mobile works totally fine on my phone, which runs Windows 8 and has Internet Explorer as the browser, except for one little thing that I've noticed recently: When I post from mobile, the screen does not go straight to my post if I use the Fast Reply, instead going near the top of the page. If I tap the Reply button or quote someone, it's fine. Not a big issue at all, but I thought I'd mention it.
little wilson she/her Posted May 13, 2014 Author Posted May 13, 2014 Clear that cache in Chrome. Do it again Interesting. That was literally the first thing I did when it didn't work. And it still didn't work. But now it's working...I'm a little irritated, but at the same time, glad that it's not incognito anymore. Apparently I shouldn't have written off Swim's and Eero's advice so quickly...(but, I mean, really? I did that!)
Swimmingly he/him Posted May 13, 2014 Posted May 13, 2014 It's the power of technology. Whenever you say, "I can fix this myself," you will fail. You will then ask a friend. He will proceed to do exactly what you did, or tell you to do exactly what you did. You will rail and hedge, but then the solution is tried a second time - and it works. This is similar to the phenomenon that prevents a USB cable from entering on the first or second try. 2
Awesomeness Summoned he/him Posted May 13, 2014 Posted May 13, 2014 This is similar to the phenomenon that prevents a USB cable from entering on the first or second try. That's gotta be up there on the list of most frustrating FWP's (First World Problems).

Yep, sometimes a computer just needs a second pair of eyes on it to make it straighten up and fly right. And you can take that as a fact stated by a professional, because i work in IT, so it's clearly a legit statement. 1
