ccstat he/him Posted May 5, 2014 Posted May 5, 2014 I've realized recently that 17S has ruined my experience of the rest of the internet. I keep trying to upvote things I like, or link people to cosmere theory posts. Those things either don't work or aren't appreciated on other sites. Thanks for making 17S such a well-organized, actively moderated, and enjoyably executed site. You have gathered a great community here. (So, if you feel like fixing the rest of the internet while you're at it, I won't object ) 9
Awesomeness Summoned he/him Posted May 5, 2014 Posted May 5, 2014 Seriously, the internet (and the world in general) would be a much more wonderful place if it was more like the 17s. 3
Observer Posted May 5, 2014 Posted May 5, 2014 We're spoiled rotten by a forum that can actually handle a 4-page religious discussion without a single spark, let alone a flame. It's sad when you leave and realize that very few other places can pull that off. 4
Swimmingly he/him Posted May 5, 2014 Posted May 5, 2014 Well, to be fair, that's partly because the moderators tirelessly wait on the side with fire extinguishers that double as banhammers. 1
Rubix he/him Posted May 5, 2014 Posted May 5, 2014 Can confirm: the head of my banhammer is in fact a fire extinguisher. But really, I'm very glad that the community here is as awesome as it is. Really, we just laid the groundwork for it. The members of the community are the ones who have kept the place as nice as it is. 1
GreyPilgrim he/him Posted May 5, 2014 Posted May 5, 2014 I love the community as well! It is by far one of the best I've been a part of. But Swimmingly, you've made a mistake. The mods and admins don't have fire extinguishers/banhammers. Those are spikes 1
Awesomeness Summoned he/him Posted May 6, 2014 Posted May 6, 2014 You're just looking at the wrong end of the tool Grey
GreyPilgrim he/him Posted May 6, 2014 Posted May 6, 2014 You're just looking at the wrong end of the tool Grey It's all about perspective.
Delightful Posted May 6, 2014 Posted May 6, 2014 This is definitely a very warm and welcoming section of the internet, and it IS because of the people, but I also think it's circular. Someone joins and people are nice to them, so they're nice in return. If someone comes along with a match, they'll stand out for miles around and can't possibly be "just another angry internet person" because.... no one else around here is angry. Also, that banhammer is pretty large and scary, especially when its very close to a charged hemalurgic spike. And close to you. So people stay away. (the fire extinguisher is just a disguise so you'll lower your guard, I'm sure of it ) Seriously, all you people are fantastic and all the mods to a wonderful job. 1
Chaos he/him Posted May 7, 2014 Posted May 7, 2014 This is incredibly sweet of you all to say. With the growth of members around Words of Radiance time, there's been an uncharacteristic amount of disciplinary action required of us, and that's made me feel down a bit. It makes me ridiculously, unspeakably happy that you think this is a great place to come to. It is all thanks to you. This fandom is the kindest, most understanding, and most rational place on the internet. It is my great pleasure to work here and try and make it even better. Thanks for being awesome. If you ever see anything that disrupts the status quo of this place having awesome civil discourse, let us know and we will swiftly deal with it. It makes me very happy that I can be as busy as I am (sorry for not being more pro-active and doing more... there's lots on my to-do list and I just haven't had time) and the site continues to flourish without our need to spur on conversations. Seriously, you guys deserve all the credit for being awesome, not us. 6

Seriously, you guys deserve all the credit for being awesome, not us. Yup, this. The manner in which this site plays out is because of the community, and not necessarily related to the actions of the moderation team. We do what we can to help moderate when the need arises, but the conducive manner of everyone is directly related to all the people who post here. I'll be honest, I haven't been too active in much but the moderation here in the past couple of years due to my job swap a while back, but the only reason I keep coming back and dealing with any issues I can help with is due to how awesome the community as a whole is. If this place was non-stop vitriol, I would have stopped even with the assistance in moderating way back when. 4
Swimmingly he/him Posted May 7, 2014 Posted May 7, 2014 This place is a garden. You don't complement the flowers on their beauty. You complement the gardeners. The staff and mods are those gardeners. You guys are awesome. 3
