OrangeJedi he/him
A couple of weeks ago I had a run-in with Brandon ans was able to ask him a question. I thought I would post it here so y'all can see it. Here is the paraphrased Arcanum style transcript: Quote OrangeJed (paraphrased) Is there a significant number of shardblades that have made it off Roshar? Brandon (paraphrased) Define significant OrangeJedi (paraphrased) More than 1 / A number of them are that could come up later Brandon (paraphased) There is a connection between spren and Roshar that normally prevents spren, even dead ones, from leaving the planet. Note I said normally; do not imagine a large trade of shardblades going off world Here is what I got from this: There are (or could be) shardblades off of Roshar, but definitely not a large number of them. Most (if not all) of the "missing" shardblades are still on Roshar. Also we now have definite confirmation that it is hard to take a spen off world, but it is possible. I would love to hear what the rest of the shard thinks of this WoB.
Scion of the Mists
We know that there are spren on Scadrial (see below). It's interesting that even dead shardblades would be prevented from leaving the planet. Quote Alex Hetu If you went to Shadesmar on Scadrial would there be spren there? Brandon Sanderson "Spren" is a term for things on Roshar. So yes, there are a few, but they're from Roshar originally. source
goody153
Interesting WoB. The question is that who are smuggling these shardblades out of Roshar.

The WoB is broad in it's possible interpretation.
Gasper he/him
I am going to take a wild guess and say that Khriss, Nazh, and probably Silverlight have a hand in this given that they want to study investure.

We actually kind of get to see one, when Spoiler Kelsier walks onto Lake Luthadel, he hears rustling in the undergrowth. It's probably not an animal from the physical realm and I doubt that it was a human or higher spren.

Patrick Star
The vast majority of the missing blades are probably just buried. Maybe they fell in the ocean, or dug themselves into the ground. Remember that Oathbringer had started digging itself into the planter. A lost Shardblade would probably put itself completely underground given enough time.

I thought that Oathbringer was partly buried due to its momentum from falling, not that it continued to inch downward after the initial impact. Shard blades may have perfect cutting edges, but their sides still produce friction (see the Last Clasp), not to mention that most (all?) of them have crossguards. The implications are that it landed Blade first and sank to the hilt and stopped. This is still not impossible though, if a blade were dropped and not recovered, it would get buried in crem and over time become just a lump in the ground.
