With only a week to go untill The Fall of Gondolin has it's release I want to ask: are there more of you who are really hyped for it?

When Christopher Tolkien wrote in the preface of Beren and Luthien that there wouldn't be a stand-alone book about The Fall of Gondolin I was quite disappointed, so it made my day when I heard that it would get released nonetheless.

I hope it will be more like The Children of Húrin than like Beren and Luthien, as in that it just contains one (final) version of the story, maybe with some annotations. Does anyone know something about this?

I have already pre-ordered it, the hardcover illustrated by Alan Lee, his drawings are great.

I mean, it pretty much all ready exists in The Book of Lost Tales Part 2. I can't imagine him using a lot of other sources.

As far as him saying he would never do that, back in Children of Hurin days, he said he wouldn't do one for Beren and Luthien or the Fall of Gondolin, so his word is pretty worthless :)

I'm not sure if I'm more afraid, that he simply took what we had in The Book of Lost Tales Part 2, brushed it up a bit and decided to publish it on its own. Or if he took the lost tale and changed it so much, that it feels non-canon.

But to answer the original question: Yes I am excited to hold it in my hands and to read it. I hope for the best!
