This exact thought has been sitting around in my head for the last few weeks! Guess I should have said something.

I'm not 100% sold, as the evidence is pretty slim, but Brandon wouldn't put coincidences like Kaladin recognizing the queen's tune in for no reason. There's definitely something there.

There's a theory out there that Hesina herself is lighteyes and hides it with eyedrops. How ironic would it be if Oroden was lighteyed, and in the midst of everything--and his mellowing out regarding lighteyes--Kaladin didn't even notice.

The problem is that he was asked wether Hesina's parents were Darkeyes, not darkeyed.

DAMNATION!!!

It’s been a while since I saw that WoB...

This is a very fine point that leaves plenty of wiggle room if so.

My interpretation of the wiggle room in that WoB was always in my mind whether it was a biological parent or a I am the one raising you parent.  It is possible the people who raised her was a light/dark eyed combo.  It is also possible that one of her biological parents was light eyed.  There is a lot of room to maneuver within that combo.

This is really interesting. I think it would make Kaladin's inner darkeyed/lighteyed debate even crazier, and it could maybe even lead to him not being so predjudiced. Brandon using this as a catalyst for changing Kaladin would be kind of cool. I'm kind of skeptical though. Kaladin noticing the tune is kind of weird, but there are too many assumptions that need to be made to get from Kaladin recognizing a tune to Hesina and Asuedan being secret sisters. We shouldn't just make assumptions based on assumptions without any evidence. There isn't even technically anything connecting Hesina and the tune in the first place. I agree that it's probably more likely that its a listener/singer tune, and it's supposed to be foreshadowing the fact that she gone crazy and has gone and eaten one of the unmade. But that's just as unsupportable as the other theory.  I think this is a cool theory, but I kind of need more evidence before i'll go along with it.

I didn't think i wanted or supported Jasnah/Kaladin ship until i saw this speculation. If this theory is right then it fits so much since this is the sort of thing that Sanderson does(we've seen this style on Mistborn franchise) through really subtle details dangling in front of you without even you noticing.

What if Hesina is an illegitimate child? Perhaps her father and his wife are both lighteyed, but she is the result of an affair with a darkeyed woman. Or, as I think someone hinted at above, perhaps she was taken in and raised by a lighteyed family for some reason, and was not raised by her actual parents.

Either of these, I think, might explain why Hesina seems to have been raised in some level of privilege, but also why she was willing/able to run off with a darkeyed surgeon. And also why Brandon always seems to asterisk when talking about her parents.

Something I just found and haven't seen mentioned before:

Stormlightning [PENDING REVIEW]

Is Kaladin related to Aesudan?

Brandon Sanderson [PENDING REVIEW]

Yes, but it's not a close relation. A very complex system of things, but yes.

Stormlightning [PENDING REVIEW]

I was just wondering why he knew her...the melody she was humming.

Brandon Sanderson [PENDING REVIEW]

Oh, he did. That is not because they're related.

Stormlightning [PENDING REVIEW]

So it's something else?

Brandon Sanderson [PENDING REVIEW]

It's something else. I thought that was a sideways question about Kaladin's mom.

Stormlightning [PENDING REVIEW]

It kinda was, I thought maybe she hummed that and so that's why he recognized it.

Brandon Sanderson [PENDING REVIEW]

No, good question.

I know this topic is a bit old, but I don't see need to create new one just to post this.

I think it is probable that the song is a Listener tune. I had a theory in my mind after reading Rlain's view point chapter. He mentioned that the humans sometimes acted like they could hear the rhythms. I think that the closer a human is to the cognitive realm, the more they can hear the rhythms. As far as Kaladin's heritage, it would make sense that he is a uncle or close to an uncle of the kid (I cant spell his name). I can see it as a sort of way to bridge the Radiants and the Alethi even more. Jasnah would probably adopt the kid as her son and marry Kaladin so as to keep both of them in the family. He would not be directly related to Jasnah so she most likely would not have a problem with it. Being married to the leader of the Windrunners would get the government and Vorin church off her back and would prevent scandals from popping up in the future. Also it gives legitimacy to her rule by having the current heir to the throne as her son.

Also, having a kid to take care of and acknowledging his heritage might be the final thing that pushes Kaladin to swear the 4th Oath. Kaladin is already changing his views on lighteyes to the point where he is willing to judge by the person and not their eye color. It is part of being a leader to accept people based on what they can do, not by how they look, we see that is bridge four and with Dalinar when he is building his elites.
