I've noticed that Brandon is very good at magic oriented exposition. He rarely has a tutorial character per se, except in Mistborn and Warbreaker, we are always learning along with the character or just get the gist of it without it having to be told to us. Of course, there needs to be a balance. I had no idea what one of the magic things were at the end of Aether, even when we obviously were suppose too. Just something I've noticed.

Yeah, I agree. I like magic, but I am bored by tutorials. He made them very fun in Mistborn though, with Kelsiers commentary. Kaladin is kind of a magic exposition character at times, and some of those scenes can be a bit dull, but some (the fight with Lopen, Sigzil and Rock in WoR) are fun.

I was always struck by Sanderson's ability to create such unique magic systems, then describe them in a way that makes them real and sensible. A lot of other books with magic I've read tend to be more like "He did this thing, and stuff happened. It was cool. Really." As a reader, I can tell Sanderson spent a lot of time on the small details of the system, really coming up with a way to make it work. That translates easily to writing, especially if you have characters that are learning it themselves.
