wocka duckbill Posted March 2, 2018 Posted March 2, 2018 Are all the cuss words related one thing i have noticed about these books is that they have some strange swears. Is brandon just doing it for fun. or are they conneted somehow. please disscus 1
Zelly Posted March 2, 2018 Posted March 2, 2018 (edited) In what way? It seems like the swearing is usually related to the planet and or/people. Roshar = "Storms!" because wow these storms are rough Nalthis = "Colors!" because it's a cultural/religious thing Lot of swearing by local deities as well ("by the Lord Ruler!") wocka duckbill Posted March 2, 2018 Author Posted March 2, 2018 I know i was just bored i think brandon really just uses them as an excuse to swear
Wandering Investor Posted March 2, 2018 Posted March 2, 2018 Swear words are an integral part of how people express themselves and language in general. Instead of having people not swear, which would be horribly out of character for a lot of them, and because he doesn't want his books full of actual curse words, Brandon gives them in world swear words. 3
Zelly Posted March 2, 2018 Posted March 2, 2018 Mmmmm, pondering 17th Shard/forum appropriate swears..... "By Spoiler's Eye!" "Topic and Train! 3
Weltall Posted March 2, 2018 Posted March 2, 2018 @Zellyia How about Vorin-styled curses like 'by Pagerunner's Memory'? Or if you want Sharder insults, how about "May thy theory be Shattered"? And of course, one can't forget swearing by the Ultimate Reality, the avatar of the God Beyond: "Stick!" 2

Nathrangking he/him Posted March 2, 2018 Posted March 2, 2018 (edited) Alternatively one could say "May your thread never be necroed"or "By Arcanum". Edited March 2, 2018 by Nathrangking 2
wocka duckbill Posted March 2, 2018 Author Posted March 2, 2018 a fancy one in general to call someone else could be you uncultured swine! then you slap em with a glove and there monocle just drops and shatters 1
Weltall Posted March 2, 2018 Posted March 2, 2018 That's less an insult and more how you challenge a fellow member to a Sharder Duel. Very ritualized competition, involves trying to make theories out of random prompts while downing shots of Veden Saph. Last one able to make a coherent theory wins. 2 hours ago, tineye0309 said: Or just the word "Shard" Seem's like an apt replacement for a current curse. Because I could see that one going either way. xD 3
wocka duckbill Posted March 2, 2018 Author Posted March 2, 2018 well in stormlight one of the swears is stormfather and there is weather in mistborn and dads exist so maybe theres a swear in the series thats rain dad so... theory?
Weltall Posted March 2, 2018 Posted March 2, 2018 Sorry, what exactly are you asking/proposing? The reason Stormfather is a curse in Stormlight Archive is because the planet has big honking storms that regularly sweep the world and this storm is embodied in a sapient spren (the literal Stormfather) because of how Investiture manifests on Roshar. I'm not sure what that has to do with Mistborn or swearing or cross-Cosmere connections. 1
wocka duckbill Posted March 2, 2018 Author Posted March 2, 2018 I just thought we were joking so i made up a really "loose" theory just for fun. Much like The Dingus Theory on pancakes.
