Asperity he/him
I have nobody to talk to as I read WoR so I don't want to have a heavy discussion with possible spoilers as I'm not yet finished with the book (so I hope people REALLY read this) but here are some rambles: Anyway, Damnation being Braize makes some sense but I like how it was spelled out for us. Braize must be a terrible place if that's where Odium is currently chilling. Also makes me wonder why the Heralds remained Heralds for so long if they're forced to stay on Braize between Desolations (correct?) so if they travel between Braize and Roshar regularly, I suspect they travel through the Cognitive Realm and should (key word: should) be Cosmere-aware? Maybe. And if Braize is Damnation, I figured Ashyn COULD be the Tranquiline Halls but I severely doubt that. Braize makes sense; Ashyn doesn't. So I have no idea where they are right now. If any of this is debunked in WoR, please don't tell me. I'm fine with no replies; I just wanted to ramble to people who will read and actually understand what I'm talking about. I'm on page 515 right now and I'm enjoying the book very very much.
PorridgeBrick he/him
Ooh, when was Braize confirmed as Damnation? I must have missed that.
Asperity he/him
I don't remember the exact place. I thought it was in one of the Eshonai Interludes before Part Three as the exact statement read something like "Damnation, referred to as Braize in the old songs" but I couldn't find it there. Maybe in one of the Shallan POVs in early Part Three then as I'm not sure who else it would come into relevance for (with Shallan being a scholar and all.) WeiryWriter he/him
It's in Chapter 32: The One Who Hates which is the Kaladin chapter where Szeth shows up. He felt as if he were standing above the void itself, Damnation, known as Braize in the old songs. Also thanks for mentioning this, I completely missed it! (Even though I knew to be looking for something like this)
Asperity he/him
You're welcome. I was completely off where I remembered it was too. I naturally thought Eshonai because songs. Sorry for that but I'm glad you knew where to look.
Argent he/him
Why wouldn't Ashyn make sense for the Halls?
PorridgeBrick he/him
Nice to finally know this. I wonder if Braize could be the Tranquelline Halls, too, with Odium taking it over and forcing the humans over to Roshar.
Asperity he/him
To quote the wiki: "Ashyn is mostly barren, with a few fertile patches". I would envision the Halls to be a more... majestic place since I take it as what Roshar believes is their Heaven; not exactly a wasteland. The magic there makes sickness into power and that doesn't make sense to me, personally, as sickness/pain/etc would be null in a Heaven-esque place. And while I could be completely wrong, something I may have read (or assumed from something I read) told me that the Shard attempting to hide settled on Ashyn but if Ashyn were the Halls then that would be a major place of significance, I would imagine. If the place is poppin', that Shard doesn't want to be there.
PorridgeBrick he/him
How can a Shard hide anyways, though? Odium is right there in the same solar system. I think he'd notice an entire planet.
Asperity he/him
Beats me, my man. Something we'll have to RAFO unfortunately. We might see some interaction between Odium and anything at the very least in the Braize scenes.
bartbug he/him
Well, Ashyn is barren now. Maybe the magma is what forced the people off. (From Silence Divine reading).
Argent he/him
Oh, I still need to listen to that reading from Silence Divine... But I was going to say, Rosharan - or Vorin, at least - lore claims that the humans got kicked out of the Tranquiline Halls by the Voidbringers. Something called a Voidbringer is bound to do some nasty things to your home planet, especially if it comes in large numbers. And especially if there was a war. Asperity he/him
Ah, okay. I didn't know there was magma on Ashyn. Besides general Cosmere information, I try to stay blind when it comes to specifics.
