[OB] The Nine vs The Nine

One of my favourite things about Oathbringer was the inclusion of the Unmade. Sure we didn't get to see all of them but the ones we did see were freaking cool. Then it was revealed, for now, that there are only nine Unmade. Now the other, more famous nine dark servants of evil are the Nazgul from Lord of the Rings. So with that thought I of course wanted to know who would win if these two groups clashed in battle.

In my opinion, the Unmade have a sure victory. Even with only the five we met in the book, they could probably take care of all the Ringwraiths themselves.

But as I'm biased as more a Sanderson fan then a Tolkien fan (I still love Tolkien though), I want to know what others think.

I kind of think this would be a stalemate as I dont believe either of them have weapons that can kill the others. I mean even Merry (with his anti Nazghul dagger) and Eowyn only reduced The Witch-Kings power in the Physical realm because Frodo and sam saw him afterwards:

Quote

As Frodo and Sam stood and gazed, the rim of light spread all along the line of the Ephel Dúath, and then... a shape, moving at a great speed out of the West,... passed high above them. As it went it sent out a long shrill cry, the voice of a Nazgûl; but... it was a cry of woe..., ill tidings for the Dark Tower....

'What did I tell you? Something's happening!' cried Sam. 'The war's going well, said Shagrat; but Gorbag he wasn't so sure. And he was right there too. Things are looking up, Mr. Frodo. Haven't you got some hope now?'" The Return of the King, LoTR Book 6, Ch 2, The Land of Shadow

And yeah not sure that steel would do much against the Unmade either. Lots of screaming and weird noises I wouldn't want to be around though for sure.

I totally see the nine being used as a weapon against odium, specificly against the fused. We know now they can be trapped, but there have to be a better more epic fate in store for them. My idea is a kind of fabrial to transform the fused, those unmade that affect emotions and the minds would speed up their deterioration so no longer able to inhabit living vessels, while the rest would transform their physical being into something new. I am imagining a new form of thunderclast,

As much as I love the Lord of the Rings, the Nazgûl do not really compare to the Unmade.

Ungoliant on the other hand would love Roshar.

I believe Ungoliant could eat stormlight but I am not sure about voidlight, she might have difficulty with the Unmade if she is unable to eat voidlight.

For anyone who does not know, Ungoliant is a giant spider which eats light that appears in the silmarillion.

Actually, I had a dream about the origin of the unmade.  Now, in my waking thoughts I'm not sure if it really makes sense with what we know, but you bringing up the Ringewraithes is actually another parallel with my dreamt theory.  See, my mind was trying to figure "why nine?"  Remember Dalinar only counted nine Radiants (or something?, I forget exactly).  Also nine Unmade.  The dream theory was this.  The Unmade are former Radiants, and one of them didn't become Unmade, and still holds their Radiance, as it were (if there can only be ten?).  Thus explaining nine, not ten, Unmade, and Dalinar's count of nine (Seven Radiants plus two more the Stormfather pointed out).  Trying to find that passage, I found that Kaladin counted nine Herald statues in Kholinar.

Like i said, not sure if it makes sense with what we know, but I thought it interesting when compared to Ring Wraithes.

Nine because 9 is Odiums number.

Also, the reason Dalinar only counted nine, not ten, is because he didn't realize Venli is the tenth.
