As to why Unity might be a proto-shard? I think bondsmiths have control of spiritual connection, and might be able to manipulate and control energy that is no longer associated with any one shard.

But all investiture is associated with a Shard.

Overlord Jebus [PENDING REVIEW]

Is all Investiture in the cosmere associated with a Shard?

Brandon Sanderson [PENDING REVIEW]

Yes, well, okay. So this is a complicated one. *pauses* So, Investiture predates the Shattering of Adonalsium, all Investiture was from Adonalsium, all Investiture got assigned to one of the 16 Shards when Adonalsium was Shattered. Some of the Investiture was not on Yolen but location is irrelevant. So Investiture is related to Shards even on planets where none of the Shards are inhabiting.

Overlord Jebus [PENDING REVIEW]

Are they aware of that Investiture?

Brandon Sanderson [PENDING REVIEW]

That's part of the whole seeing into the infinite, being beyond even the power of a Shard. So, technically you could make the argument that Harmony could feel the sense of Preservation on every world in the cosmere, right? Because the building blocks of all life and creation are these things.

Overlord Jebus [PENDING REVIEW]

So the Shard of Preservation embodies all preservation in the cosmere?

Brandon Sanderson [PENDING REVIEW]

Yes but he just can't do that, right? Like, he's not infinite. The Vessels are not, even if their minds are enormously expanded by holding a Shard, they are not infinite. The Connection is all there in the Spiritual Realm

I was specifically referring to this.

All investiture is associated with a shard, but certain shards have lost their consciousnesses. Since all investiture seeks consciousness, it makes sense that someone like a bondsmith might be able to bend the unmanned-power in some way. We now have at least 4 (or 5) shards that lack a consciousness behind their intent. What does that mean? Who can take-the-wheel and drive that energy? Can that energy be "United"? Is this energy being grabbed by autonomy? What gives?

Also, this whole unite them business speaks to me of Ambition. Just saying...

I think, someone could ask Brandon, if "Unite them" cosmere wide or it's roshar wide. This will help to narrow down theories.

He is very tight-lipped n the matter.

Brandon said that he wants Stormlight Archive to be about Stormlight Archive or something like that.So you should not be aware of Cosmere to understand Stormlight and all these things like letters, mentions of other Shards, Adonalsium and so are just easter eggs for more hardcore fans.He said it will not have a significant effect on the main plot.

In that case, I think he can confirm his own words(if it is still true, of course) and kill all theories about "uniting all Shards of Adonolsium into One".

Does anyone else see the similarity between Dalinar's "unite them" and Kelsier's "survive"? I haven't looked very hard yet, but is it possible that they're the same voice?

Interesting.I don't remember that Kelsier heard a voice telling him "to survive".It's from Secret History?

Maybe he's referring to Kelsier's voice telling them to "survive," and is implying that it's Kelsier that is communicating to Dalinar?

IIRC, there are various theories that have Kelsier pulling the strings behind the scenes in a lot of the other books (e.g. Ghostbloods, etc.).

So what does everyone think Honor means by this repeating statement.

1. Unite the humans to fight Odium?

2. Unite the spren and humans together again?

3. Unite the pieces of Honor together?

4. Other... please explain.

Throwing something out that nobody mentioned (and it is way simpler than some theories):

It maybe something that happened at the end of Oathbringer, like uniting the three realms and forming the perpendicularity.

I remember that, in Thaylen city, the stones themselves asked to Dalinar to "unite them", so we may be really sure that the request for "unity" is quite common and come from different sources. In the particular momment of the Perpendicularity, Dalinar claims that he is Unity, so he is the Bondsmith in charge of Uniting stuff.

Unite them has many meanings. And will be a theme for Dalinar throughout. So the answer is yes to all of that. The kingdoms including the parschendi,  the radiants, etc.    But ultimately I predict it is meant to unite the shards on Roshar to become something new,  Unity if you will.  Similar to Harmony with Ruin and preservation.   Cultivation, Odium and the essense of Storm Father become Unity.  That's my end game prediction for the first 5 novels.

Mad theory, I love it

The who could be Adonalsium. It is a mystery who else it could be, but for that matter, it is also a mystery how Adonalsium would be doing this either. But something freaked Rayse/Odium out when he said, "We killed you". Something big is being hinted at.

But as for Dalinar becoming Adonalsium, I have to agree with @Calderis  It just isn't happening. Hoid has been (probably?) working on this for thousands of years. Dalinar isn't going to to do this in a few years.

I think it may be that he is being commanded to unite the other Shards in an attempt to stop Odium, as he could possible destroy all of them. They may have to work together to defeat him.

If this is the case, I think it will be a very good story, with our favorite characters from across the cosmere overcoming the challenges that the change in planet may bring.

It would also be interesting to see a battle between the heroes. (Not that I want to see any of them die)
