[OB] Someone will bond Sja-anat

Recommended Posts

Okay, so anyone who finished Oathbringer will remember Sja-anat, the sapient unmade that (seems to) want to defect from Odium's forces and either be free or perhaps even join the other side.

So here's a really crazy storming theory I came up with:

You know how Renarin bonded a corrupted spren? Well, why can't someone bond an unmade if said Unmade, say: (A) Is willing (B) Has defected from Odium, and (C) Technically a godspren like the Nightwatcher, the Stormfather, and the third one (which I suspect is Cusicesh the Protector)? Yes, you read the third one right: I think that Sja-anat (and all the other unmade, or at least the sapient ones) is technically a godspren, meaning that if someone bonded her, they would become a bondsmith.

I suspect that, if she turns out to be genuine, one of the characters will bond her, becoming a fourth bondsmith, and the second knight radiant to bond a voidspren. This would, of course, be a monumentous event, and possibly even turn the tide of the war. However, it would also be extremely awesome, and I would like to see how her and her radiant's spren-radiant relationship would be like and how it would be affected by her being an unmade.

Don't forget to leave your opinions on this theory, questions, comments and concerns, and who you think will/would like to bond Sja-anat in the comments below.

This is a really interesting idea.  I hadn't considered the Unmade to be godspren of Odium, but rather something separate entirely from other spren.  However, it makes sense if they are godspren of Odium, rather than something else.

As far as who might potentially bond Sja-anat, for some reason the first person I thought of was Moash.  I think that Sja-anat might possibly be trapped in Kholinar (although I am not sure), or at least not be able to leave Kholinar in the Physical Realm without Odium's permission - I think he sent two of the Unmade there specifically to accomplish his designs. Moash is in Kholinar, with Sja-anat, so it would be interesting if he started bonding her - if she was able to convince him Moash that Odium was evil, Moash could start working with Sja-anat covertly and would become a spy for the Knights Radiant behind enemy lines.

This could potentially be a way for Moash to progress without technically becoming a good guy or following the typical redemption story arc.  I think that if Moash was just a mindless slave of Odium, it would be pretty boring and his character would start to feel like a robot (which is unfortunately how I think Amaram stated to seem at the end of Oathbringer).  But if Moash bonded Sja-anat it would add a really interesting element to his character development and his classification as a "good guy" or "bad guy."

In that case, I hope he doesn't succeed...

If you're team Odium.

If you're team Honor you want him to succeed.

I'm pretty convinced the Ghostbloods are good guys at this point. The reason I think they tried to kill Jasnah is because they feared her re-breaking the KR. Mraize told Shallash where to find Talenal.

I'm pretty sure the ghostbloods are the neutral people who sometimes do good things by bad means. That's pretty much what Kelsier was, and Brandon has said he would join and lead the ghostbloods. They are pretty much assuming the antihero role.

I kind of suspect that the night watcher was an unmade who defected.  things always come in 10s on Roshar but they keep referencing 9 unmade.  so I feel that either 1 already defected or 1 failed to be turned

Tentatively, I think that Odium's magic number is 9, based on this WoB:

Questioner [PENDING REVIEW]

I have a theory that each one of the Shards is related to a certain number. Preservation really likes 16, Honor likes 10, and Odium likes 9. Am I onto something?

Brandon Sanderson [PENDING REVIEW]

Yes.

I don't remember clearly why, but I had a distinct impression that Sja-Anat entered Shallan's body when she tried to chase her away. Would take me a while to find all parts, but when Shallan next looks at herself in a mirror, she sees another woman who is apparently representation of Sja-Anat - also, Shallan after that often hears her voice in her own head... I might need to re-read those parts.
