Is anyone else getting the vibe that Dalinar is going to try to step down as "High King" in order to pursue his goal of unification?

We've already seen him spend two books and part of a third realizing that forcing Alethkar to "unify" by force didn't really achieve the desired goal, and furthermore entrenched "The Blackthorn - Bloodthirsty Warlord" into the minds of most of the other monarchs.

Regardless of whether Taravangian becomes another Bondsmith, I can see Dalinar offering "peaceful" Taravangian the position and moving most of the Alethi forces out of Urithiru in an attempt to sway the otherwise obstinate nations to unlock their oathgates.

That would be fun. Dalinar giving Urithiru to Taravangian. King T will have early christmas should that happen.

I don't think it will happen though. Stormfather invading peoples dreams will probably gain Dalinar some allies. I also can't see why he would abdicate. Give King T temporary control while he is gone uniting, yes. Abdicating, no. That would just remove some of the negotiating power he already has.

He can't keep doing things half-sies like he is now.  He'll need to commit to being either the non-political Radiant or the Alethi conqueror.

Honestly I could see it going either way.  Being "forced" into the role of conqueror to save the world from itself seems like the most realistic answer to the problems the world is facing.  This is balanced by the fact though that Elend already went through this character arc in Mistborn, and I get the feeling Brandon would want to avoid having Dalinar's story follow the same "reluctant tyrant" path as Elend.
