I think this might be a form of savanthood, where burning a metal, or tapping a metalmind might become so seconds nature that you do it as naturally as breathing while you sleep. I don't think you can store, but that doesn't mean you can't tap while sleeping. And I suspect that Wakefulness probably works with similarities with Age, where you start to get diminishing returns, so it would be worth sleeping every now and then.
