Inner Delysium she/her
Hello, one and all, The name is Delysium. Inner Delysium. (No, that name might not be on my driver's license or birth certificate, but I claim the right to re-name myself here.) I'm working my way through Brandon Sanderson's books as quickly as I can get my hands on them, and I intend to own most if not all of his books at some point in the future. I consider it a point of pride that I read Mistborn: Hero of Ages in a day and a half. If I weren't allowed to be a Mistborn, I'd be a Tineye Misting, and if I were an Aon, I would want to be Rao. There, now you know all about me. So. I'm working my way through the Wax&Wayne books; I've read the Mistborn Three, Elantris, and Warbreaker, and this one sneaky character keeps popping up; he's a fella by the name of Hoid. But I think I remember him (SPOILER ALERT) dying in Elantris. Or melting. Y'know? And he's shown up in the others as a storyteller and an informer. Is he immortal? Is he a decuplet, one of ten identical children all named Hoid who were scattered through the Cosmere in a wormhole? Does he reincarnate on different worlds in the same shape whenever he dies? Is he a Timelord capable of FTL traveling? WHO IS THIS MAN AND WHY DOES HE CONTINUE TO APPEAR? If you know there's an already existing explanation somewhere on brandonsanderson.com or here somewhere, could y'all link it? 'Preciate 'cha -Inner Delysium Edited June 25, 2017 by Inner Delysium I vanted to add more vords.

So Hoid is immortal. He can live forever, provided he doesn't get killed. Hoid doesn't die in Elantris, I think you're thinking of someone else, who was just there for that one book. Hoid meddles with stuff all around the Cosmere for unknown reasons, although we have been getting bits and pieces of his real motivations throughout the books. There's probably an explanation for Hoid on the Coppermind Wiki, but it may have spoilers for all Cosmere books, not just the one's you listed.
Inner Delysium she/her
I'm going to spring all my questions loose here, too. What the heck is a spren, and is it a bad thing? How does one advance in the rankings?

I could try to explain it in more technical terms, but without knowing about Roshar.... Just read the Stormlight Archive. Welcome to the Shard, you probably want to post questions in the forums pertaining to the Shardworld your interested in, and cosmere wide questions belong in either Q&A or cosmere theories. Warnings for both of those last two though, spoilers are rampant. Have fun among us fanatics, and avoid any offered baked goods. They're spiked. Edit: and have an upvote in welcome. StrikerEZ he/him
Hey, welcome to the Shard! Have an upvote and a spiked delicious cookie! Calderis and cloudjumper already basically answered your questions, so I'm just gonna ask you what your favorite Cosmere book so far is. Also, do you know what the Cosmere is? I assume you at least have some idea, as you've noticed Hoid showing up on all these worlds.

I suppose you're referring to this? Spoiler He leaned forward and dropped into the small pool with a splash. Then vanished. If so, then you should know that it doesn't kill. It's just his way to travel between realms and planets.
Brightlord M. Alhstrom he/him
@Inner Delysium Welcome to the 17th Shard! Have an upvote and don't trust the cookies! Hoid is amazing. He shows up in almost all of the Cosmere stories. And no, as far as we know he isn't immortal. He can be killed, and some WoB (words of Brandon) make it sound that he survives from century to century by fast forwarding time, so it looks like he might age too, if much slower. Have fun searching around for more Hoid theories, though be careful of spoilers.
