Silverblade5 he/him Posted May 14, 2017 Posted May 14, 2017 So, I need to write a 1800 word research paper that presents an argument. Any ideas on good topics?
TwiLyghtSansSparkles she/her Posted May 14, 2017 Posted May 14, 2017 (edited) Argue in favor of teaching more enjoyable books, still with literary value, in schools? A few good examples would be William Golding's The Princess Bride as a study in archetypes, Mary Shelley's Frankenstein as an example of an epistolary novel with a complex moral argument, and F. Scott Fitzgerald's The Great Gatsby as an example of a book with an unreliable narrator. Edited May 14, 2017 by TwiLyghtSansSparkles 1

You could go with something controversial. Abortion, animal rights......... nerdiness - the value of comics/movies/pop culture. (And why the pop culture of teen girls shouldn't be mocked >_>) really anything you like can be make into an argument. Why cane toads should go extinct. Why we should be worried about AI's. countries with a monarchy should go full republic. What are you interested in?

Why Somaliland should be recognized as an independent state from Somalia. Why Teddy Roosevelt the Musical would make an awesome sequel to Hamilton. Why Netflix, Amazon Prime, and HBO Now will take over from traditional Cable TV unless significant changes in the market appear. Why becoming a plumber may be a much smarter career move than becoming a lawyer right now. The need for movie theaters to get much nicer or significantly lower their prices if they want to stay in business. Why recent stem cell research that suggests that fertilized eggs are able to develop further than previously thought independent of a mother should or should not matter to Roe V Wade. Why anime may be more appealing to teenagers because a teenagers ability to recognize human facial expression subtlety is not developed but anime's exaggerations help teens understand the emotions expressed.
Erunion he/him Posted May 16, 2017 Posted May 16, 2017 Why time travelling to kill hitler is/is not a good idea. Why electric vehicles are/are not the future of commuting. Why Nuclear is/is not a good energy source. So many great, contentious topics you could pick and have tons of opportunity for good research 1,800 words too - that's no very long for a research paper. Not long at all. I'd struggle to stay within it for a bunch of those topics. You got this, no problem.
