Chapter 4 prescript of way of kings

Recommended Posts

Not sure if anyone has mentioned this, guessing someone has, but did anyone else notice how much this sounds like shadesmar?

What would cause someone to be able to see into shadesmar? The death rattles all seem to be of the future except this one, unless i am missing something. What could be the reason for this?

Are you talking about this one?

Quote

I’m dying, aren’t I? Healer, why do you take my blood? Who is that beside you, with his head of lines? I can see a distant sun, dark and cold, shining in a black sky.

It kind of reminds me of (Mistborn SH Spoilers):

Spoiler

Visions of The Beyond

It seems to be a vision of someone seeing the Cognitive Realm as you say right before they die. I think this seems to be somewhat common for Cosmere deaths based on some other books. Maybe this person is seeing the very near future instead of a more distant one?

I don't know what the person with "his head of lines" if referring to though.

Seems like they were being observed by a cryptic and glimpsed it in their view of the Cognitive Realm.

I'm pretty sure the person with the head of lines is a deathspren. Shallan sees spren as people with heads of lines, and this man dying is simply seeing his deathspren the same way Shallan was.

We've seen Deathspren after Kaladin's recovery after being strung up. I don't recall anything about them that would match the description here.

But that could've been Kaladin seeing the forms they take in the Physical Realm. Spren (tend to) look very different in Shadesmar.

Could be, but I think the fact that basically no one sees deathspren ever, unless they're really super close to death, suggests that deathspren are one of the spren that are totally invisible in the Physical Realm.  Only those who have drifted away from the Physical (who are about to die) can see the deathspren.  Kaladin sees deathspren when he lies mortally wounded, but none of the bridgemen see them, even though the spren are present.  I think that's because they're straight-up invisible in the Physical Realm.
