SylphrenaHonorSpren
In the epigraph for chapter 32 of Hero of Ages, it states: Quote Allomancy, obviously, is of Preservation. The rational mind will see this. For, in the case of Allomacy, net power is gained. It is provided by an external source -- Preservation's own body. As we've seen in Bands of Mourning (and also somewhat in Secret History), whoever holds the shard of Preservation seems to slowly spiral away from sanity and become more and more withdrawn and unstable. Sazed is a prime example of this, forgetting that he probably shouldn't reveal the future and seeming generally really confused. What I'm wondering is, does this mean that the substantial increase in the Mistborn (Twinborn, Misting, etc.) population is not only pulling at his body, but his mind too? Is that possible? Kingsdaughter613 she/her
The slow spiraling is because A) Preservation sacrificed his mind to defeat Ruin and B( because he is dieing. There is no indication that this is caused by the power itself; to the contrary, the shard's power should do the opposite.
SpeakoftheDeval
Yeah when Kelsier tried to talk to madmen as Preservation he couldn't because 'the power tries too hard to shore up the gaps in their mind'. As regards Sazed, I'm pretty sure that's just because of the two conflicting intents.
Kingsdaughter613 she/her
Also his personality; he never dealt well with internal conflict; he loves to give over knowledge (hence the slipping); and the way he speaks can make him sound confused even when he isn't...
