HoidvsVoid
In emperors soul we come across a reference to anthracite, a rock that can burn Can this possibly be the same burning rocks that we find in elantris at lord telriis party?? Hmm...
Yata he/him
It's possible...indeed if I don't remember wrong Telriis said it comes from "very far" and it is very expensive
WeiryWriter he/him
It's a possibility. But also keep in mind that anthracite is literally just a type of coal.

1stBondsmith he/him
It is far more likely to be Lime. Lime lights were also a very common fire lit stone that burned on world stages. Being "In the Limelight" was a reference to that. Easy technology development that would be natural to a developing world.

On that subject, arent the lights around the ballroom of Keep Lekal (Venture?) described as "stone heated to the point of brilliance"? While I know Sel and Scadrial are different worlds, basic properties of things like stones shouldn't change.
1stBondsmith he/him
Additionally, anthracite is hard to burn and burns a very small cloud of smoke and a high temp flame, with almost no light. Hard to keep going in a campfire. I am pretty sure this is a limelight lamp. Limelight (also known as Drummond light or calcium light) is a type of stage lighting once used in theaters and music halls. An intense illumination is created when an oxyhydrogen flame is directed at a cylinder of quicklime (calcium oxide), which can be heated to 4,662 °F (2,572 °C) before melting. The light is produced by a combination of incandescence and candoluminescence. Although it has long since been replaced by electric lighting, the term has nonetheless survived, as someone in the public eye is still said to be “in the limelight.” The actual lights are called limes, a term which has been transferred to electrical equivalents. From Wikipedia. "Fits the Bill" (theater pun) exactly! Edited October 19, 2016 by 1stBondsmith Fixed mistaken description if smoke
HoidvsVoid
I was also thinking of limelight but discounted it due to thinking that it just glowed instead of flamed. Thanks.
WeiryWriter he/him
My point was that your post kind of implied that anthracite if these two rocks were the same it was a big deal when it's actually rather mundane.
