marsoupial they/them Posted October 10, 2016 Posted October 10, 2016 (edited) Hey Sharders! Bleeder here. I might just use this to ramble about guitars. I apologize in advance. So, as some of you know (maybe?) I am an aspiring musician, and I play a multitude of instruments including guitar. I love guitar. I geek out over guitar. The lead singer/guitarist of my favorite band, Taylor Goldsmith of Dawes, mainly plays a guitar called a Fender Telecaster. Ever since I first saw Taylor's Telecaster (or Tele for short) I have wanted one of my own. It's such a beautiful piece of machinery, and it puts out such a good sound. Now, the guitar I currently have is called a Les Paul Special II, by Epiphone, and it is by no means a high-class guitar. It's cheap, and glossy, with loose tuning machines and very base electronics. I would be willing to sell it to buy a better guitar. Preferably a Tele. Many are being sold on online garage sales such as letgo, and I have my eye on a few. I'll try to keep y'all posted, unless no one's interested and I'm just being a nuisance (in which case I will cease and desist). Edited October 10, 2016 by bleeder
Zathoth Posted October 10, 2016 Posted October 10, 2016 I have an epiphone at the moment too, I want an SG though, and if I can dream: a black Les Paul Custom with three pickups, played through an Orange amp. ... Yes, that is probably the reason.

Yes, that is probably the reason. Oh, dude, that's gorgeous. And also would cost you a fortune. All I have is a trash Fender 15G crate amp. Puts out pretty good noise though. I found a sweet Squier Classic Vibe on letgo for $250. I've heard that they play as well as American Standards if taken care of correctly. Also, a bare-wood partscaster for $70 that I might inquire after for Christmas.

I have a Fender Mustang I, works pretty great for just messing around at home, which is all Im doing anyway, but one day I shall build myself something like a home recording studio. Nice, the guitar shop had a pretty cool five stringed bass that wasnt too expensive. Im thinking about buying it. I probably need a steel stringed before that though... I would get a 12-string, but I really hate re-stringing XD
PantsForSquares he/him Posted October 10, 2016 Posted October 10, 2016 EWWWW GUITARS #TEAMBASS ALL THE WAYYYYYY I kid, of course. My former bass instructor owns a really sweet Fender Strat, and that thing sang like a heavenly choir, but with strings.

Right now my band consists of 2 guitarists and a bassist, all vocalists, so you're not underrepresented We could use a drummer though. I hear those are important I know drums but I love guitar too much to give it up.

I'm actually trying to start a band consisting entirely of chemical engineering students at my school, but weirdly enough, we haven't been able to find a guitarist. We have me (bass), two vocalists, and a drummer on board, but no guitarists.

Pinnacle-Ferring he/him Posted October 10, 2016 Posted October 10, 2016 .... *tentatively raises hand* ...I play classic guitar. Harmony, I feel like such a square.

One of our vocalists can play the keyboard, but she doesn't have an actual keyboard with her, so that's off the table for now. But as a bassist, I kind of needed to develop a wide stylistic base (heh). I can do most styles of jazz (Latin, blues, swing, and funk, primarily), and rock rhythms for bass are generally pretty straightforward.

One night at the club, the mindreader closes her set by reading the mind of the each of the musicians in the band. First, she reads the mind of the lead guitarist: "Wow, look at all the cute chicks who showed up tonight! I bet they're all here to see me. Good crowd!" Then the drummer: "Look at that crowd! With this many people in the house, we're going to make good money tonight!" Then the Keyboard player: "Yeesh, look at that crowd. None of them will ever truly appreciate all of my talent. What a bunch of losers." Finally, the Bass player: "E E E E E E E E A A A A A A A A E E E E E E E E..." What do a fretless bass and a lawsuit have in common? Everyone is relieved when the case is closed. What do you throw a drowning bass player? His Amp. Why don't bass players tell blonde jokes? They don't understand them. Q: How many bass players does it take to change a light bulb? A: None. The piano player can do that with his left hand Why couldn't the bassist get into his apartment? He couldn't find the key and didn't know when to come in. 3

Low, low, low blow. I'd argue that a fretless bass has a better sound, but they're also that much harder to play. In the hands of someone that knows how to play them, a fretless Warwick bass sounds absolutely beautiful. Jaco Pastorius used a fretless bass, and he's widely considered to be the most influential bass player who ever lived. 6 minutes ago, bleeder said: Why couldn't the bassist get into his apartment? Mestiv he/him Posted October 11, 2016 Posted October 11, 2016 I like how Haruko used a guitar (or a bass, I don't know) as a weapon in Fooly Cooly and that's all I have to say about guitars 1
Darkness Ascendant he/him Posted October 11, 2016 Posted October 11, 2016 I also like how the guitar is used in Respawnables. It be epic
