Just reread WoR for the first time

And damnation if this wasn't more enjoyable the second time around. So much more nuance than the first time. I have nothing more to add than

“Oh, storms yes! Everybody, give the Lopen your spheres! I have glowing that needs to be done.”

So, was just browsing around the forums and saw that Renarin is somewhere on the Autism spectrum. That reminded me that Kaladin thought there was something odd about Renarin's "illness". Has this topic been discussed at all? Is it because of his spren, or is there something else we haven't come across yet?

I think, and I am not sure if this is canon or fantasy-land-I-made-it-up, that scene between Kaladin and Renarin was supposed to foreshadow Renarin's proto-Radiant status.

I have launched a new theory into another topic... Autism has a genetic component and I am now leaning towards Renarin have inherited his condition from his... father. Shocking  :o but the more I look into it, the more sense it makes.

When I got done with it, I immediately re-read my favorite scenes because, let's face it, 1,000 pages is a lot to read twice in a row. My all time favorite scene goes from when he talks to Zahel during The Weeping, to when he gets to Urithiru. While renewing his Oath was very powerful and epic, I was also struck by the raw strength and desperation of "You.Will.Not.Have.Him!" If they ever dare to make a movie, that is the one scene that has to be perfect.

Also, while re-reading that scene, it also struck me that Kaladin probably has Seasonal Affective Disorder. In the normal world, people get into a funk during either the Winter or the Summer. In Roshar, since the seasons tend to fluctuate a bit more often and more unpredictably, it makes sense that Kaladin would always feel depressed during The Weeping, but not during any other change in weather. However, given his Windrunner awesomeness, it's also likely due to many of the reasons Kaladin himself states why he dreads The Weeping. There's no wind, no life to the storm, if it can even be called a storm. I'm sure he gives more reasons, but I don't have my Kindle on me right now to dig up those quotes.

My favorite scenes are always when a proto-Radiant says an oath. Sanderson just builds those scenes up to be the most storming awesome moment in the entire book. And, of course, the character development is phenomenal in the way it lines up with the plot.

In the corridor when Kaladin finally says the words was fantastic! That and the entire chasm sequence with him and Shallon still gives me chills (although that was not a saying-the-words moment).

I swear there was a scene in WoK that made a passing reference to Renarin seeing figures that struck me as similar to what Shallon had started to draw earlier in that book. I'm trying to find the reference now... but in any case, I too think the quoted scene hints at his proto-radiant status.

Oh could be. I never found the reference I was thinking of by searching for Renarin, maybe I'll try that next. Thx!
