This WoB seems to support your notion, specifically I would guess that Kaladin's maternal grandmother was Lighteyed:

 

 

I am aware of this WoB, but I disagree with its interpretation. It doesn't say Hesina's family was lighteyed, it only said she gave up status to marry Lirin. I personally think it means she was the daughter of a wealthy citizen merchant, a darkeye of the 1st nahn: so richer than many lighteyed families. She gave it all up to marry a penniless surgeon who didn't even make it to Karbranth.

 

I maintain my point, having Kaladin have lighteyed blood would definitely cheapen his story arc.

Looking through the chronology, it is mentioned that in 1163, prior to the first meeting with the Parshendi, on the Hunt, that Dalinars wife dies. It references Chapter 22 of WoK in the notes. This is of course, prior to Gavilars death and the vengeance pact, when Kalidin is still at home in Hearthstone, with his parents, who are both alive.

I can't make sense of how this chapter concludes this, but if it is true, then Dalinars wife cannot be Kalidins mother.

Can anyone fill in the blanks?

She cannot be his mother because at the time of Kaladin's birth, she was pregnant with Renarin (they have less than a year age difference). She can't also be Kaladin's mother because she "died" after Tien's death, but moreover she cannot be his mother because Brandon already told us Hesina was his biological mother. The time frame does not work out for Hesina to be the same individual as Shshshshsh.

 

Also, Hesina is not golden haired nor plate skinned: she doesn't fit the physical description of Shshshshsh.

I'm sure there are many reasons wby Hesina doesn't work as Shshshshsh. I was merely wondering about the chronology coppermind page, where it States the year Shshshshsh died is 1163. I don't remember anything from chapter 22 of WoK specifically stating this. Cheerx

Time line wise it also doesn't work. By the time she "died", both Kaladin and Tien were born.

Taking this completely out of context it's hilarious to listen to an educated discussion taking place about an individual named Shshshshsh.

 

To be on topic though...

We're definitely going to learn more about Hesina's parents--when asked about it Brandon said it was "a very astute question". Apparently "they took a hit" in social standing when they went to "go be what they became" (not very direct, classic Brandon). As it stands there's no reasonable way I can see Kaladin being related to the Kholins...and I think it's best that he isn't.
