king of nowhere Posted May 12, 2016 Posted May 12, 2016 Stick card: 2 brown mana 0/1 'Your opponent gets annoyed and leaves. You win." ah, the ultimate card, if only you could get ahold of some of that brown mana... but, it could be an artifact with indestructible and hexproof and no other abilities. useless on its own, but if you found a way to enchant it somehow... 1

Glamdring804 Posted May 12, 2016 Author Posted May 12, 2016 Stick card: 2 brown mana 0/1 'Your opponent gets annoyed and leaves. You win." While that wouldn't be possible without a silver border, you got me thinking of using Stick as an alternate win condition...
Green Fire he/him Posted May 13, 2016 Posted May 13, 2016 I don't do much reading or posting in the General Brandon Discussion, but I thought the cards were really cool. It reminded me of my question for Brandon in the signing line for "A Memory of Light". (A more complete/ accurate quote is probably still around the forums in the event's topic.) I asked Brandon about Hoid represented as a magic card, and he responded that of course Hoid would be a Planeswalker. He was unwilling to give any sample abilities that might make it onto the card, saying something like he wouldn't know how to balance abilities for game play. So I asked him about CMC. I said Hoid would obviously be Blue, but would he be Blue/White, or Blue/Black or something? Brandon thought about it and said he'd probably be UUU5, so I said something about him being on Bolas power levels, and Brandon said yea.

No matter what Brandon says, I am still quite sure Hoid is Blue/Red, not pure Blue. Or at least that is the impression he gave me on SA. It's actually more complicated than that. The Wit is very obviously U/R. He uses his sharp intelligence, and is rather crass, provoking, and somewhat reckless. That's fairly UR. Then there's Hoid the storyteller, who seems G/U, particularly with his style of lightweaving. On a broader scale, Hoid seems rather Esper colored. He is currently on Roshar because he is trying to, well, save the Cosmere. This is a very white thing to do. On the other hand, a large part of his motivation is selfish - he is perpetuating a grudge against Bavadin and Rayse. This is rather black behavior. If I had to say, Hoid is WUBRG, but not all at once. I'm thinking the best way to represent him is to use all four of the blue based color identities, one for each major shardworld. Roshar Hoid is U/R, Sel Hoid would be W/U, Scadrial Hoid would be U/B, and Nalthis Hoid would be G/U. 2
Glamdring804 Posted May 23, 2016 Author Posted May 23, 2016 Hey guys! We're approaching the home stretch for the Way of Kings set! I was wondering if you guys would be willing to go through the set, and look for any missing events or plot points I might have missed. I think I got most everything, but it always helps to have a second pair of eyes. Thanks.
Glamdring804 Posted May 23, 2016 Author Posted May 23, 2016 Is there any way to print these out? I'm certain there are plenty, though there aren't any that are broadly mainstream, and most seem to take a lot of effort. Here is a reddit thread. https://www.reddit.com/r/magicTCG/comments/20mfnq/anywhere_to_buy_custom_card_printing_wanting_a/ Also, here is a program that makes high res renders of custom cards. Note that it only works on Windows http://magicseteditor.sourceforge.net/
Kynedath Posted May 23, 2016 Posted May 23, 2016 Cool! Thanks. It looks like a lot of work, but I'm sure it'll be worth it.
Glamdring804 Posted May 23, 2016 Author Posted May 23, 2016 Cool! Thanks. It looks like a lot of work, but I'm sure it'll be worth it. Yeah. The real problem is finding enough relevant art.
Dunkum he/him Posted May 23, 2016 Posted May 23, 2016 Yeah. The real problem is finding enough relevant art. yea, I've run into that problem with my own (no where near this extensive) attempts at similar projects. I am not nearly good enough to illustrate these sorts of things myself, and the art that is available isn't always sufficient/close enough to what you had in mind.

Yeah, I can see the art in my head, but I have none of the skill needed to actually draw/paint it. So, regarding my earlier request, can you guys think of any important events I'm missing from the set? I just reread the book a week ago, but an extra pair of eyes always helps.
Samaldin he/him Posted May 24, 2016 Posted May 24, 2016 Really cool what you got there, is there maybe a program/site to play online with self-made cards? Was it intentionally to have Syl and Pattern in diffrent collors than Kaladin and Shallan (it makes sense for Kaladin since he transforms into the right collors, but Shallan not only has other collors on both sides, but these are the enemy collors to black)? Also "Surge of Radiance" is the defending of the bridge at the tower, but i didn´t find a card for when bridge4 decided to head back and save Dalinar. Maybe it´s just me but i think this is one of the more important events since it shows how kaladins way of thinking changed.

The decision to rescue Dalinar is supposed to be represented in Grim Resolve. If you aren't getting that from it, that means I need to change the title. I also recognized another thing I was missing: The results of the side carry. I added a new card to address that. The weirdness with the colors and such comes from the limited available slots for legendary creatures. Ideally, Syl would be white and blue, Pattern would be blue and black, and Shallan would be green, white, and blue. Allas, Kaladin and Dalinar already fill the white-blue slot, and Jasnah, Sadeas, and Iyatil fill the blue-black mythic slots. When we eventually get around to doing the third set, I plan on having three color radiants. Kaladin will be white-red-blue, Shallan will be green-white-blue, Jasnah will be white-blue-black, and Lift will be red-blue-green.
Dunkum he/him Posted May 25, 2016 Posted May 25, 2016 I don't see anything obvious missing, though it is a lot of cards to go through, and a lot of book to correlate it with, so I could easily be missing something. I'd potentially quibble about some of the colors you picked (I still don't agree with red for Kaladin) but I understand at least some of the rationale behind them. we see a lot more of the protagonists than the antagonists, so it would be hard to fill out red and black without maybe fudging a little bit.
