Random Observations R Me Posted March 21, 2016 Posted March 21, 2016 I might just be really slow, or hallucinating. I'm not sure which. But... could there be more Windrunners on the way? Syl claims to be the only Honor Spren who was sent. But, that doesn't exactly fit. It is mentioned that wind spren occasionally bind things like bowls to other things. However, that same trait is what tips Kaladin off that Syl isn't a wind spren in chapter 57 of WoK. Thoughts?
Stormgate he/him Posted March 21, 2016 Posted March 21, 2016 The trait that tipped him off was that Syl talked to him and remembered his name.
Random Observations R Me Posted March 22, 2016 Author Posted March 22, 2016 The trait that tipped him off was that Syl talked to him and remembered his name. This is what tips him off that she isn't a "normal wind spren." Sticking objects together is what tips him off that she isn't a "wind spren" at all.
Jondesu he/him Posted March 22, 2016 Posted March 22, 2016 I thought it was stated outright that windspren had a habit of making things stick together as pranks on people, like it happened all the time? “Windspren were devious spirits who had a penchant for staying where they weren’t wanted. He’d hoped that this one had gotten bored and left, but as Kaladin tried to toss his wooden bowl aside, he found that it stuck to his fingers. The windspren laughed, zipping by, nothing more than a ribbon of light without form. He cursed, tugging on the bowl. Windspren often played pranks like that. He pried at the bowl, and it eventually came free. Grumbling, he tossed it to one of the other slaves.” Excerpt From: Brandon Sanderson. “The Way of Kings.” iBooks. https://itun.es/us/T6mBw.l Granted, that's not 100% confirmation, but it sounds like that wasn't perceived as unusual at all. jW 2
Vander Posted March 22, 2016 Posted March 22, 2016 Yeah, that's correct. On the other hand, that may be the only way Roshar ISN'T completely screwed- you know, ALL windspren turn out to be Honorspren, etc. 1
jasenerd Posted March 24, 2016 Posted March 24, 2016 Yeah, that's correct. On the other hand, that may be the only way Roshar ISN'T completely screwed- you know, ALL windspren turn out to be Honorspren, etc. That would be hilarious. I love it. But at the end of WoR, Kaladin attracts a bunch of Windspren. So either Honor(the shard) really liked wind or Kaladin is attracted observers to his use of their gift.

That lesser spren are attacted to radiants and form the plate. Since they are lesser, no screaming, but since they are spren, have limited transformation abilities.

From descriptions in the books They make shard plate seem like a... primitive Fabrial but one that has been lost. after all They do have those half-shard Shields. Which can block shard plate even if they dont give you super human Abilities.
sh3nahz Posted April 3, 2016 Posted April 3, 2016 i read it as plate could be made from lesser spren and fabrials are made when a spren is trapped within a specific type of gem thats been cut to attract the spren. with enough spren or fabrials they could replicate or augment the abilities of the spren that are trapped within. we dont know what kind of spren make the shardplates yet though could be lesser spren counterparts of the bonded spren like wind or creationspren or could be the spren surrounding the casmfeinds and skyeels that is noticed a few times in the book so could be foreshadowing.

Which can block shard plate even if they dont give you super human Abilities. They thought the same about blades at one point. Except it turned out the gem only served to bond and never even needed to be powered. Or attached at all. Kaladin can power that shardplate helm with his own stormlight too. The gems appear to also be relatively meaningless to its inner workings because of this, which defies what we know of fabrial science even more than ancient fabrials did.
