Blackhoof
What happened with Dawnslight? Like, the last we see of him he was with Regalia when David kills her, and then David runs from Prof. So... did Prof kill him? Is he stil there, feeding and protecting Babilar? And moreso, how do we explain him? he appeared at the same time Calamity did, but Calamity doesn't reveal anything about him that we didn't already know. Was he a member of Larcener's race too? I am confused at this lack of info ._. Edited February 21, 2016 by Blackhoof
TwiLyghtSansSparkles she/her
You're not the only one. I was fully expecting to get an explanation on Dawnslight, answering all the questions you just listed…and I didn't get one. I think he may have been a member of Larcener's race, one who put himself into a coma to escape from the oppressive stimuli of our world and thus escaped becoming embittered, but since there's no textual evidence of this, it'll have to remain a theory. Voidus
Headcanon: He was an AU Calamity that came to our universe once he'd handed out the powers in his own.

I see someone has been stealing my head canon. Honestly, the laco of answers is one of the points that makes Calamity feel a bit disjointed from the previous book to me. Like someone took the important bullet points from Firefight to work out the sequel but forgot the interesting things only hinted at, like what happened in year one after Calamity. Blackhoof
I was fully expecting DL and Calamity to be linked somehow, but other than headcanon and speculation they aren't Hopefully we can get a WOB about it at some stage that answers the question
vineyarddawg
Yeah, I didn't think about this when reading the book, but now that you mention it, this is the biggest plot hole left unanswered from the entire Reckonerverse, really. I mean, given all we know about Dawnslight, we might reasonably guess that he's a member of Calamity's race that reacted very differently to our world, for some reason, than Calamity. But what does that mean? How does that fit into what happens now? Apparently it didn't fit at all into the larger story with David, Prof, and the Reckoners... but you'd think it would, given what a huge part Dawnslight played in Firefight. Big, big plot hole, unfortunately. And made all the more unnerving by the fact that Brandon doesn't usually do stuff like that (i.e. create a hugely-important character and then just never mention them again). ShardDrifter
Calamity did mention that he did give a power for the first time before "ascending" maybe dawnslight?? An also now that you mention this im thinking that all the explanation about the fears and the darkness dont fully explain why the gifters like prof an conflux didint turn bad when giving their powers Edited February 22, 2016 by ShardDrifter
thek9 he/him
Obviously, Dawnslight is Hoid. He stays around some important events, mostly observing, but also helping in an indirect way, then mysteriously vanishes when that particular crisis is over (Babilar). Sure, Reckoners isn't Cosmere, but Hoid would never let a simple WoB keep him from popping into an alternate universe!
