Guy Srinivasan
Many words which Brandon capitalizes turn out to be relevant to magic systems. Some obviously, like Stormlight, some less, like Thrill. I've compiled all the words in WoK and WoR that didn't feel like they were obviously just place names, person names, nations, etc. or something which is widely known to be Investitureful. They are vaguely categorized sometimes. ===Conjectures=== Oaths are definitely magic. Curses are definitely magic, and maybe more than just the Nightwatcher's boons and curses. I conjecture that one type of standard curse reduces your Fortune, perhaps in a specific way. Dawn means something important. Callings are actually magic and the whole mythology about fighting in the afterlife is true. Elevation is a thing, and the Honored Dead are a thing. Truth is investiture-related, maybe even a Shard. Thaylen Passions are magic. Kali'kalin's ghost is Kelsier?? ===Words=== Oathstone Oathgates Oathbringer Ryshadium Origin of Storms Tranquiline Halls War for Heaven Damnation Shattered Plains Codes Purelake Gallery of Maps Prime Map Tower Fortune Curse of Kind songs of Cursing - to be sung by Parshendi children if they failed [Lift] Knew she needed words to capture spren, also "everyone knows that curses made evil things come and find you" Diagram Dawnshards Dawnsingers Dawncities Veil Palanaeum Circle of Memories Memory Devotary of Insight Devotary of Purity Devotary of Sincerity Devotary of Denial Philosophy of Starkness Philosophy of Purpose Philosophy of Ideals Philosophy of Aspiration Ten Essences Vapor Spark Talus Zephyr Lucentia Ten Divine AttributesTen Human Failings Truth - [szeth] There was no place for him in the Valley of Truth. DreamEternal
What fandom is that? Discworld, I think. DEATH speaks in ALL CAPS like the Stormfather.
skaa he/him
Discworld, I think. Yep! On-topic: I think it's an established convention in fantasy literature that things of a magical nature whose name can be found in a real world dictionary are capitalized. This is to avoid ambiguity (and maybe to make it look Cool). Things of a magical nature that have a proper fantasy name (e.g. atium) are sometimes written without capitalization because nobody would confuse them for some real world object.
