So I'm rereading Mistborn; in Ch. 8 where Kelsier and Vin encounter the mistwraith, and Kelsier explains that Mistwraiths arnt dangerous, and besides the Nobility have their uses for them.

Nobility have uses for KANDRA.

Kelsier's line implies that Nobility are aware of the Origins of the creatures.

Thoughts?

I'm pretty sure it was fairly well-known that the kandra and mistwraiths were cousins among the nobles. The secret is the precise nature of the relationship between the two.

Regular mistwraiths are useful too. As a convenient body dump for political rivals, for instance. Undigested corpses can be so annoyingly recognizable after all.

I imagine nobles would also appreciate how mistwraiths keep the Skaa afraid of being outdoors at night, though that's more the idea of mistwraiths than the actual gooey muscly blobs themselves, so I don't know how relevant it is.

Yeah, I always thougth that the main use for mistwraiths that nobles have is simply making mists dangerous so that skaa stay at homes and don't try to escape.

I think we all discriminate against mistwraiths. Just because they are light blue, transparent/translucent, and have amoeba-like abilities, we assume they are gooey. There is no evidence that they are gooey, in fact, the one Vin saw in TFE was clean of ash and plant debris as would be indicative of gooeyness.

Carry on. I don't mean to derail this thread.

Also remember Kelsier doesn't know everything. He says the mistwraiths aren't sentient at THAT stage of their life, implying he thinks they eventually grow into Kandra on their own.
