It seems everyone has kind of forgotten this guy from the prologue, so what do you think? Could he be the earliest example of influence from Trell or was something else going on?

I honestly never thought of that. Thought he was just a twisted kid who liked to kill things weaker than him. I have no argument for or against at the moment. But it would be a cool little link, showing how Wax has been pushed and pulled by gods for a long time now.

Forch came across to me as an unfortunately insane Twinborn. No trell shenanigans, just plain old lunacy. He was mainly there to show Wax's character development.

Hmm. Yeah, I just wrote him off as an insane person.

But then, those who are insane tend to be more "open" to Shardic influence. Maybe it was the work of Harmony, training Wax? I'll have to reread the prologue again...

Some people are just bad people. Or ill. Or have other complex motivations for what they do. Not everything needs to be cosmerically significant.

Wasn't he strapping a Terris kid (possible ferring) down to an altar, ready to stab him with a metal implement?

Sounds suspiciously like Hemalurgy to me.

He had already been cutting the boy with knives to torture him, if I recall, but that doesn't mean that the process couldn't have ended with a Spiking. I don't believe that was Forch's intent, but it is a possibility.

That's exactly my thinking. He was obviously a serial killer in the making, which is the kind of "open" mind that Shards like Ruin can speak to without a Hemalurgical spike, like Vin's mother.

My theory is that Forch was extremely mentally unstable, enough to be influenced by "Trell" into doing what he was doing, but he was also taking his time and "enjoying" it, because a big part of his mental instability was extreme sadism. The influence then, would be to end with a Hemalurgical spiking, to make him even more "open" to external influence.

He had nails with him.  He didn't know Wax would drop in, so what are the nails for?  I consider it highly likely that Forch was a pawn of either Harmony (driving Wax away from the Terris compound where he was being stifled) or Trell (hoping to get a future embuggerance out of the way early).

Yeah...I assumed that there was something shardic involved here.  The ability of shards to influence the insane makes me look at every crazy person who appears on screen closely.

He was a Coinshot, and up to something seriously messed up. It makes sense he'd be prepared in case of discovery.

Indeed. He just got caught starting a fire in the Village.

Why not just use coins?  Much easier to explain than a bag of nails.  "I was just doing some midnight carpentry, master Keeper, sir!"

Possible lack of coinage. It's possible the Village dosnt use them.

A much more plausible reason though, is that nails are much more common in a barn/ work she'd.
