Stormgate he/him Posted January 6, 2016 Posted January 6, 2016 Throughout AoL, SoS, and presumably BoM, we are told that Wayne can do impeccable accents. But are they really accents? Does he mimic people's voices, or just their accents? It's a subtle difference, but it is there.

Given that he can mix and match, combining elements and critiques some with MeLaan I'd say it's definitely accents.
Stormgate he/him Posted January 7, 2016 Author Posted January 7, 2016 But isn't it plausible that Wayne could mix and match voices as well? Correcting myself, I'm sure he can and does do accents, but does he also perfectly mimic people's voices, and use his arsenal of accents to mix and match the rest? The main reason I ask is because in AoL, Wayne impersonates an old woman, and does a good enough job of 'her' voice to remain inconspicuous until he asked too many questions.

I always imagined that scene with Wayne doing a rather Monty Python-esque fake ladyvoice.

Early in Alloy of Law, Wax identifies Wayne in disguise by his voice (during the wedding reception while Wayne is in character as a server). I guess it's possible he mimics voices in addition to accents, and intentionally used his own voice to clue in Wax, but it feels unlikely to me.
natc Posted January 10, 2016 Posted January 10, 2016 Well, when you're in the business of disguises faking "old person", "female", or both is probably a required skill. But his field of expertise definitely seems to be accents. It's probably the source of most of his variation.
