My wonderful son gave me a personalized Warbreaker

 

 

 

 

his question was :

Please say something we don't know about Endowment or Vasher

(or Nightblood)

 

My inscription says : 

Way back when, Vasher's name started as Vancer

This is probably referencing the original name of the character as Brandon was first writing the book; he said in one of the annotations that he originally called the character Vancer before tweaking it to Vasher.

But maybe, in reference to this change, your inscription means that Vasher's original Returned name was Vancer, or possibly even his name before he Returned.

Vasher's original Returned name (the one given to him by the Cult of Returned) was Warbreaker. Vancer might still have been his pre-Returned name, though.

Vancer was the original name that Brandon used for him in the early Draft of the book.

 

He take this name from the Dad of an ex-girlfriend of him. And the name remains in his mind.

 

If I don't remember wrong, he wrote this in the Warbreaker's Annotation.

Yeah I highly doubt that it is his pre-Returned name, Brandon has pretty consistently RAFO'd that.    Also Brandon isn't exactly a fan of the "tell me something about XXX" questions, so I'm not surprised that he squirreled out of this one (it's also possible that he forgot that he mentioned it in the Annotations).

I can't find it right now but I'm pretty sure there is a WoB about how he isn't revealing it not because it is important, but more that he needs to save some things for Nightblood.

I wouldn't assume it means anything else unless you have some good evidence in-text or from WoB that suggests Vancer is somehow relevant. It being a previous draft of Vasher's name seems the simplest answer, especially when you look at how Brandon has renamed characters and shifted names around from his previous drafts to his released version.

I'd assume it was his name in an earlier draft before Brandon settled on Vasher unless you have other evidence. We don't even know if his pre-return name is relevant anyways.
