This one's for you, all shippers of Shallarin!

I just read the 3 preview chapters on Tor dot com, and may I say, wow. I was completely and absolutely blown away. Before I read them, I had been a quiet shipper of Shallarin, thinking that it would work but not much more than that. But after, I am positive.

Spoilers for WoR

I believe that Shallan and Adolin are going to get to know each other better, all while she is growing a friendship with Renarin. She will realize that she likes him and he will realize that he likes her. There will be some problems with Adolin... and then Boom! What do you guys think?

Posted (edited)

I think Adolin is going to die and the alliance will resume in the form of marriage with his brother.

EDIT: not really, but this will make Shallarin fans happy, so why not?

Well, she'll get the same advantages for her family whether she picks Adolin or Renarin, so I could definitely see her switching sides after she starts to realize that Adolin is all wrong for her.

If you read carefully Chapter 1, there is a contract involved.

A contract that are void if Adolin say "I don't like gingers". Dalinar let his sons choice in this matter he wouldn't force Adolin if Renarin are a best match.

I'm not against Adolin and Shallan, In true I believe that Adolin need calm down a bit in the women department, the dude looks like to be in the heat or something, and Shallan are nice gal. But Renarin give me a Vin X Elend vibe. =)

Could not agree more. Shallan and adolin are like total opposites and renarin complements her perfectly.

Also how do I "upvote" cause this deserves it?

Click on the green arrow pointing upwards. It's down in the right corner of a post. I have no idea of how it is on a mobile device, though.

I was somewhat surprised that there are so many people who support this pair so strongly. It felt a bit like a desperate shot at the dark to me, but while I made my rebuttal comment, I was almost convinced myself that Shallarin was inevitable. That was a weird moment, really. But in the end, I remain unconverted.

Renarin and Shallan actually are very compatible with each other. They are both very clever people, negatively influenced by their family, and they both stuck me as wallflowers. It will be nice to see them come out fully from their shells and shine, maybe with each other. Since both Shallan and Renarin are both nobility from two respectable Houses, they are also a match for each other if they ever decide to tie to knot. But. They are so similiar in so many ways that if a relationship were to blossom between them, they will be no more than close friends.

I feel that Shallan is the type to go for excitement rather than dedication. This is pretty common. I mean, she's what, fifteen in the book, but in spite of the other guys in her life, she fell pretty hard for twenty-something ardent who later turned out to be a member of a secret organization. It's only one example, but it's the start of a pattern. Because of how she lived her life and her father died, it's almost certain that she has a bit (or a lot) of a daddy-issue.

So, rather than spending her time trying to coax a shy Renarin, I think she'll rather shoot for someone else, like Adolin or Kaladin. If she feels especially adventurous, maybe Elhokar himself. And yes, I know he's married. And about twenty years older than her. I really doubt this will happen, but I won't know for sure until the release of the next book.

As for those who scorn the idea of Adolin and Shallan, I might remind you that opposites do attract in real life. There is a very fine line between hate and love, and all it takes to cross one with the other is a right moment.

I think Renarin will fall for her while she falls for Andolin creating another Galivar-Navani-Dalinar style relationship. Other examples are Elend-Vin-Spook from Mistborn1 or Steris-Wax-what's her name from AoL.

Love triangles are just as cliche as main characters falling in love with eachother.

Hopefully BS suprises us and Shallan gets together with Rock or something.

I completely agree with you. It is possible for people that are very similar to be in love and have a good relationship, however, its much more common for people with opposite views of life to be attracted to one another.

I've always been confused about the Shallarin thing. Personally I think Shallan and Adolin would be a much more exciting and better relationship anyway.

I also think Adolin will appreciate Shallans skill at art, and more importantly her quick wit. Even more than Shy Renarin.

Not a contract, a casual. A conditional betrothal that will become a contract once signed and notaried by the ardents.

That leaves plenty of opportunity to switch things up if things don't work out.

This is how I see it playing out, even if it is cliché. In Shallan, Adolin is finally going to meet a girl that tames his relationship ADD. Also Adolin is like Wit's biggest fan, he's going to love all of Shallan's funny remarks. I think Renarin will be attracted to but intimidated by Shallan's intelligence.

The peaks are near her home. ;)

I think it is funny how everyone assumes X or Y is perfect for Shallan when really we don't know the girl yet. I got the vibe from her in TWoKs that she is a complete mess, and the preview of WoR only makes that vibe stronger. I don't think she and Adolin will work, but not because someone else is a better choice. I think she has to remember and face her issues before any relationship will work.

Agreed. I'm withholding judgment on Shallan until we see more of her in WoR, but quite frankly I think Renarin deserves better.

The great risk here is the king liking so much of Shallan remarks that he name her the new Wit, and the boy like a good laugh. I really hope that she make sport of some Alenthi nobles.

Indeed Adolin like of funny ones, let see what happen. I was i little suprised when she jumped in the engament with him head first and smile all the way, I think that Brandon nevee  like the shy princess trope very much (Warbreaker princess prove this very well) and If she take some levels in Badass with Jasnah she could very well wrap the Kholin brothers in her little finger. ( that seems like a real possibilty).

I confess that Shallan are a little anoying in my first read but after I readed 4/5 times this book (What ?! I'm waiting WOR for 3 years) now I think that she have potential.

By the way if Hoid returns would be nice to see the Master making short work of the Ginger smartass, man I really like this book =)

i actually think Shallan and Alodin are perfect for each other, which is of course why it won't work out. it'll be interesting to see the development or lack thereof in their relationship.
