Hey guys, how's it going? This summer I was looking for something to read while waiting for the next A Song of Ice and Fire novel to come around and a friend recommended Sanderson to me. About halfway through the first Mistborn trilogy I discovered this thing called the Cosmere and... I've been hooked ever since. All the individual stories are amazing and the overarcing meta-plot is so intriguing. I didn't want to make an account here until I was finished reading all the books to avoid spoilers, but I couldn't quite hold out - still only halfway finished with Shadows of Self.

Anywho, I'm mostly here to read through fan theories and deeper insights and re-reads to better undertand all the awesomeness I just got through. Kolo?

Hi! Welcome to the 17th Shard! Which books have you read?

And anything from Shadows of Self (as well as any major spoilers from other books) are going to be spoilered except in the respective forums for that particular work.

Very good! I see that you haven't read anything non-Cosmere yet, which I highly recommend once you're done with the Cosmere stuff. How is Shadows of Self going so far?

Yeah, I can't get myself too excited for the non-Cosmere stuff, to be honest. Some of the descriptions look interesting, but the connectivity of the Cosmere is a big part of the draw for me. Maybe I just need to dive in instead of thinking about it too much, haha.

Not much to say for Shadows yet - still in the early part of the plot staging. I love the western-themed metalborn fight scenes in the Era 2 books, though. Coinshot + guns = winning.

I like Sanderson's magical systems enough that I'll probably check out the non-Cosmere stuff in due time. Right now I have a real itch to re-read to find all the connections I missed the first time through, though. I love the complexities and I feel like I'm still missing a big part of the puzzle even after reading them through once. The worldhoppers in particular really intrigue me.

That's completely fine! Rereading Sanderson books is really helpful in genereal, because he packs so much in there that you can't possibly get ti all the first time.

Alright. Shadows of Self is finished and I'm all caught up on the Cosmere. So... any suggestions on what to do next? There are a ton of fan theories and miscellaneous quotes from Brandon about tidbits here and there, where does a person even begin to explore the "extra" stuff from here?

My preferred method of greater understanding of the Cosmere (once aware) is to go to the Coppermind and click through all of the links in the footnotes. Then I just read all of the signing reports and absorb copious amounts of tidbits and RAFOs.  :D Welcome!

It has more of the old signings, though. If you want newer ones, go to the individual signing threads, in Events & Signings.

It's similar enough that one of the first, naive questions people ask is, "Is Reckoners Cosmere?" (It's not, despite how much Calamity seems like a Shard :P )

Velcome to ze Shard! I like doing accents zough I am very bad at zem, no?

It's basically some form of Holiday on here, where we celebrate Peter Ahlstrom's (assistant of Brandon) birthday as one of his old names was 'Ookla the Mok'. It mostly starts on the 26th but some people do it early or may be a bit late, and will run until most people get bored of it which will most likely be a week. There is a more detailed explanation in the General Discussion sub-forum :)
