If you get WoR, can you post a picture of it on top of the book? :D

Of course  ^_^

Aye, and detail is difficult at small scale. Mini design is one of those things I've been known to do when the rent is due. Privateer and Wizkids. It's actually pretty crazy what level of detail they can pull off with professional casting, but with 3D printing I think we're still working our way down. Get there eventually  though, I'm sure.

It's just little details that I didn't bring up earlier because the artist had already put in a lot of excellent work, and expressed that they weren't interested in messing about more with the sculpt. I'm not inclined to be pushy about fan-art being "accurate" (insofar as anything Isaac or I design should be taken as gospel). I want fans to have fun, and I feel like when fans make fan-art, they should be free to revise designs as makes them happy and fits their vision, especially if they're not conflicting with WoB.

If nothing else, It re-emphasizes that I oughtta sit down one evening and do up some more sketches of Axehounds and Chulls and so forth, and then let 'em loose so fans can have better reference than just the one drawing. If that's something folks have an interest in (and I reckon they might), and it don't cross the boss, then it's something I'd like to do.

Yeah, having only a single drawing as reference made the modeling part a bit of a challenge  :)

THAT would be awesome!!

It'd be really helpful, especially when it comes to details and such.

...and I guess the community here (me included) would love that  :D

holy rust this is awesome. i would love to 3D print it. i think CPL has an open access 3D Printer that i could use.... and then when Brandon is in town i could get him to sign it too! /dreams

edit: seeing that you actually did print it, would you mind sharing the file? i looked a bit into the cost of printing it at CPL and it appears free so i'd love to go down there and print one off for myself if you don't mind. its awesome!

Of course I could share it, but the main problem would be the fine details.

The minimum wall thickness in the model is .3mm, which means the printer would need to have an extremely high resolution.

That is why I ordered it at Shapeways myself.

I wonder, if it would be ok to make the model available on their page without adding a fee on my part. That would mean you'd only have to pay for the print (which still is quite a bit)?  ;)

I wonder if something could take the online model and be able to animate it. After all, the book gives a few poses for it to follow, and there's only so many ways a giant crustacean/bug could walk, so several of its movements could be approximated without too much difficulty (I think).

ah understandable. i don't know a whole hell of a lot about 3D printing, but i do understand the basics. the differences between all the models eludes me. i know the Chicago Public Library uses Makerbots, and from looking around Shapeways certainly uses more industrial printers. a boy can always dream though, right?  thanks for the awesome renderings and pictures of your model. its certainly badass!

Since Swimmingly asked for it, I did some photos with WOR for size comparison.

Took me a little longer than I thought, since I had to finish reading it first  ;)

Amazing! Could you do a Whitespine?

Or even better, a Chasmfiend. Scaled to the size of the Axehound.

...

I'm gonna need a bigger 3d printer.... :P

No you need to make the following:

1) Axehound - CHECK

2) Whitespine

3) Chasmfield

4) shardbearer

All within proportion and then you put them all in perspective :o

I agree you need a bigger printer

A Whitespine would certainly be a bit of a challenge, so why not? B)

I'll have to get some info from Inkthinker first though, to get the details right.

It may take a little longer to finish the Whitespine, as I'll start at university this fall, so my free time will be rather limited.

Since some of you asked, here is the 3d-model as well as some other pictures.

But, as I already said before, it needs a printer with a very high resolution.

I have been interested in Whitespine and it'll really be awesome to see one  I am so dying for someone to encounter a Whitespine

Take your time, school comes first ;)
