Yeah, Epics tend to lash out violently when their weakness is present or hinted at. I can imagine Epics simply attacking him when he fills their minds with their weakness.

Maybe only make each power effective against vanillas? They still work against Epics but are weaker, and don't go near prime invincibility status.

I think emotional manipulation is just not a great PI in general, people's reactions to emotional states aren't set in stone, anyone who knows their powerset might feel horrible as they pull the trigger at this person they feel is the epitome of all that is wonderful but they'll still be able to pull the trigger.

Well i could see vanillas being affected by the power to such a degree that they simply couldn't pull the trigger. Mind control is a thing we have, after all.

It is but that's a separate power, emotions can't force you to do anything, long term they can change your mindset but in the short term they actually don't affect that much. If you really want to kill someone and you have good, valid reasons then you'll still kill them no matter how happy and peaceful you're feeling.

Think of Breeze in Mistborn. He could influence people, even get them to be more conducive to his wants than they might otherwise be, but he couldn't Soothe someone into killing their family. And he couldn't Soothe people into not attacking him if they broke down his doors wanting his blood.

Emotion control is less like a remote control for people and more like a negative/positive reinforcement system. The most you can do is give people rewards for doing what you want and punishments for irking you, but you can't take the punishment too far because they'll know that whatever you're doing to them will stop if you're dead.

And as was mentioned pretty frequently, super-powerful soothings are generally less effective than Breeze's style of very subtle emotional manipulation since when someone is aware of your influence they can become more able to combat it mentally.

So I guess I'll change the PI since the effectiveness of it on other epics is questionable. I can do that. I also want to clarify something: Peacegiver doesn't necessarily manipulate emotions. If he wanted to, he probably could make a vanilla kill his family, because the vanilla would view Peacegiver as perfect, anything he wanted must be ok to do. On the topic of the effectiveness of their general powers, should we have them work on epics, just not as well as they do on vanillas?

The usual standard on mental manipulation (in fact, for most powers in general) is that Epics are more resistant than vanillas.

I was conceiving of Peacegiver's power as more than simply soothing/rioting though. More like his PI is separate, but linked to his soothing/rioting, but his PI works by mind-controlling people to not kill him by convincing them that he is perfect and beautiful. It is more than simple emotional manipulation, it is full mental control, albeit only mental control to not do one specific thing.

Hm, I actually kind of like that more than what I had in mind. Do you all think this would work for Peacegiver?

I thought that was what Patar had in mind in the first place. I was picturing the emotional manipulation becoming so powerful that it was essentially mind control. I suppose it would make more sense to have the powers separate, but it definitely is plausible, I think.

That could be done. Personality altering powers always have a bit of an drawback in that they alter how someone can write their characters but depending on how it affects Epics that might be negligible anyway.

Although if it is only temporary that concern itself isn't as bad.

That is also true.

I mean just, can you guys imagine a Nighthound that all like "You're right, i should be treating Ray better. I'm sorry, now go, you're free."

I picture it being role-played like this:

Remington drew his gun, aiming down the sights at this new Epic. He aimed straight for its head, steadying his breathing. But just as he went to squeeze the trigger, he felt.... Like he didn't want to anymore. Why... Why would I want to kill this glorious creature? It is... Perfect!. He lowers the gun, and his mind clears. Wait... Of course I want to kill it, it is threatening Sam and Revolution! He forgets his doubts, raising his gun once more, but as soon as he does, feelings of peace and wonder fill him. He tries to resist, knowing that it must be some Epic power... But he cannot. His desire to fire melts away, and he lowers his gun once more. Joy is replaces by frustration, and he charges at the Epic, drawing a knife. But as he gets closer the Epic turns to him, and with a gesture he feels his anger disappear. He struggles forward, ignoring the emotions, but as he gets within striking range, the Epic's aura overpowers him. "How could I bring myself to hurt such perfection, no matter what it is doing? What gives me the right to do something so awful?" Remington drops the knife, and the Epic laughs as his senses return to him. "Thank you for the entertainment!" The Epic gloats and leaves, Remington knowing that nothing he does could let him kill the creature.

The question here would be how much his usual mental manipulation is seperate form that or if he could just forcibly turn Remington into his fanboy for however long they are interacting.

I saw the word blueberry at the store today. My first thought was of Voidgaze.

Almost everything with dinosaurs in it reminds me of Lightwards (which I originally spelled Lightwarts….wonder if Sam needs a new insult ).

Rude, snotty women remind me of Lucentia. So do rude, snotty men, actually.

Every time I type the words "what happened in," I think of a role-play set in that place.

If a character goes through a trauma, I wonder what their Epic weakness would be. (It's really hard to narrow it down with Jessica Jones.

I don't really want his powers to work like "I'm using my powers on you, now follow me around and do whatever I want because you love me." I imagine that what Blackhoof posted would work perfectly for Peacegiver's PI, Remington felt his power while trying to kill him, but as soon as he stopped the feeling went away. I imagine that his mental manipulation works a lot more subtly. He could make vanillas his slaves if he desired, but while interacting with epics, it works more like soothing/rioting, as someone stated above.

The legacy of the Void is taking shape.

A legacy of waffles.

Does it start with FUN and end with "GREAT NOODLY ONE IT REALLY IS A PARTY!!!"?

And it all started with a story about living toy monsters getting crushed by the ghost of a dead child in a fantasy steampunk city.

It starts with a fun party and ends with the wedding crashers.

RP related activity seems to have really dropped lately :\

What major stuff needs to happen next in each thread, and who is doing it?

Astoria: the midnight tower fight, the destructor/blackwave/dragoon meeting

Corvallis: reactions to new attacks

Portland: Neverthere fight, Chimera fight? Not sure

Salem: Mouldbreaker reaction to disturbance

Dalles: Bus chase, other stuff? Not sure

What progress are we making on that stuff? :) Just trying to see where everything is at and all, and where everyone is

Yeah, hasn't even been much movement in the Questions thread :( I mean this thread's been up a month and we're only just over half way through.

Holiday time I guess.

Tower scene in Astoria is slowly progressing though so hopefully that will get posted in the not too distant future.

Not sure who's going to post first in the Neverthere fight, I can do an unrelated POV from Neverthere but she wouldn't really have much to do other than spy on some other people.

Yeah, I think/hope that it's mostly related to a good deal of people having their test period.

Astoira: We're working on the tower fight but came to a bit of a slow phase trying to figure out how Brightdeath's powers should work without Winter. The meeting is waiting on mail/Dragoon, I think.

Portland: Pretty much, the Neverthere scene is primarily waiting on an Electro/Timeport segment and the conversation in Thoughttown is waiting on a response from Kobold's vanillas, although I guess that part could be skipped.

Dalles: Let's see, with Frostfire being dragged off to the bus chase, i guess the other major thing there is the Shiny/Vondra conversation, followed by Vondra making the call on Vapor.

Ok sounds good.

Hopefully things pick back up once people finish all their finals and such.

I don't know the feeling, given that my exams were a month ago aha and I have had almost nothing but free time since
