Caevita he/him Posted November 7, 2015 Posted November 7, 2015 So, as far as I've been able to figure out, cognitive shadows, shadows of self, or whatever you want to call them, the things that happen when gods die, are a type of spren. This has been confirmed (ish) by the Stormfather, when he claimed that he was "both" a spren and a god, and also when he said he was the piece of Honor that had to remain. So, if they're spren... well, say Roshar got a new shard-holder for Honor, but that shard-holder then died fighting Odium. I know, Honor has been shattered, but I suspect Brandon isn't gonna let that be a forever thing. That temporary shard-holder would then leave a spren behind. Which could get... fun. Yes. I am using a complex cosmere phenomenon as an excuse to ship Kaladin and Sylphrena. I regret nothing. (Yet. Then Kal's gonna not be a spren and the regret will come. But not yet). 2

Stormgate he/him Posted November 27, 2015 Posted November 27, 2015 Welcome to the Knights Awkward. All are invited, so long as you swear the oaths. I suggest the Shipwards for you.
I_am_NOT_fire Posted November 27, 2015 Posted November 27, 2015 I'm pretty sure that honor spren are small splinters of honor's power (so technically kaladin is a very weak splinter.) But that also means that if honor returns then all the windrunners would loose their spren, and possibly their abilities too.
natc Posted November 27, 2015 Posted November 27, 2015 (edited) Um . . . windrunners almost definitely existed before Honor died. Not almost. Definitely. Edited November 27, 2015 by natc
I_am_NOT_fire Posted November 27, 2015 Posted November 27, 2015 But preservation still existed while the mists were there, so possibly if honor summoned all of his power, like Vin did with preservation, the honor spren would be absorbed into his power, although windrunners would probably still have their surges.
Yata he/him Posted November 28, 2015 Posted November 28, 2015 But preservation still existed while the mists were there, so possibly if honor summoned all of his power, like Vin did with preservation, the honor spren would be absorbed into his power, although windrunners would probably still have their surges. But the Mist isn't separate from Preservation. A Splinter is exactly a "separate and quite indipendent part" of a Shard. I don't think that one can simply say "Splinters Assembly" and rebuild a Shard. Or on other Shardworld this thing will be already did.
natc Posted November 28, 2015 Posted November 28, 2015 (edited) Also, spren gone seems to equal your powers going with it. You can't quite have a nahel bond with a Shard, I'm sure. Third note, the vast majority of spren are apparently Honor-Cultivation hybrids, last I checked. There's a lot of power you'd need back to fix Honor to 100% at this stage. Pretty much all of him is now self-aware pieces. Fourth point, dead men are going to summon jack squat. Preservation didn't really spend more than moments without a living holder. And as Yata says, was more or less still in one piece. Even if you somehow put a few million or so spren into one body, it's gonna need a good chunk of power to bind it all back together. The creation of Harmony took two shards' worth to force the reaction. Spontaneous nuclear fusion already ain't cheap, and we're outright fusing the power of creation here.
