Lurching Sky-Stairs

This is my first time posting on here- please be gentle XD

I tried asking Brandon on Twitter and got no response- so my query is this:

If a lurcher had a coin (or other source of metal) beneath them and pulled on them with the right balance of force, could they hold the metal in place as a solid platform upon which they cold walk- thus using this as a makeshift set of stairs?

Almost certainly not.  If all that's holding up the coin is the Lurcher's Pull, then what's holding up the Lurcher?  There would literally be nothing counteracting gravity to keep the Lurcher in the air.  S'he'd fall straight down, albeit with a coin snugged tightly to his/her foot.

Yeah, it kinda felt like a bootstrap paradox- the lurcher would be pulling on the coin to hold themself up, which could in turn allow them to pull against the coin in the first place and so on.

I love the fact that Brandon has magic systems that can have foundations in real- world science, despite their being inherently magical ^.^

a mistborn however might be able to if they could balance their pushed and pulls on the coin somehow. Though the spinning wheel of horseshoes might be easier to manage.

The horseshoes work because they're hitting the ground before the Mistborn Pushes on them.  You have to have something greater than your own mass to Push against in order to go up; it would never work if they were just hovering mid-air.

As Kaymyth said, no you couldn't, it'd be like putting two magnets near each other in mid air then dropping them, gravity still affects them even though they have the additional attractive force, all that would happen is that they'd be stuck together while they fell.

So the idea works, but not on yourself. What if the other person was a Coinshot holding you up? Would that negate it and it wouldn't work?

Yup. By pushing up on you they'd be pushing down on themselves which would cancel your pulling them up and they'd fall.

Now combine it with Navani's elevator Fabrials (Which I totally called minutes after finishing Wok :P) and you could get some interesting things.

Inter-cosmere inventions? :D

Technically I think it would be intra-cosmere :P

Although speaking of which I think that Soothers and Rioters on Scadrial would kill to get their hands on one of those emotion-sensing bracelet fabrials. Would make things a lot easier.

That makes sense, thanks ^.^
