KnightGradient Posted August 30, 2015 Posted August 30, 2015 I got super bored, so I decided to find out exactly the proportion of Earth to Rosharan years. 1.141552511415525 Roshar to 1 Earth. Multiply that number by the Rosharan age of a character, and you will know their earth age. For instance, Kaladin would be about 21 or 22. Still young, but not SUPER young. Also, do we have a WOB on whether or not Rosharans age different as well? Like is 19 years on Roshar the same for a Rosharan as 19 years on Earth?
Seloun Posted August 30, 2015 Posted August 30, 2015 What is your derivation for this?Looks like you're asserting 10,000 earth-hours in a Rosharan year, but I'm not sure where you are getting that from (or rather, I understand 10 x 1000 hours; I don't understand how you determine 1 Rosharan hour = 1 Earth hour). WoB regarding Kaladin's age; Interview: Mar 20th, 2014 WOR Signing Report - IronCaf (Paraphrased) OutisKaladin is a lot younger than his knowledge and training levels are? (Can't make out the rest) Brandon SandersonYou've got to keep two things in mind. He's led a very hard life which has aged him experience-wise prematurely, and also Roshar years are longer than ours, so when in this book they say he's 19, he's not actually 19, he's more like, I can't remember the exact equation, he's like 23 or something like that.
natc Posted August 30, 2015 Posted August 30, 2015 Well the hour length has to be similar if not identical to Earth, or Kaladin's age wouldn't calculate out to match that WoB as well as it does. And Brandon hasn't really said otherwise. It could be that all shardworlds derive their time measurements from Yolen hours, which in turn match Earth. We don't know. One year is 500 days, so for the average 20 hour day you do, indeed, have 10,000 hours.
Kurkistan he/him Posted August 30, 2015 Posted August 30, 2015 Peter's said a Roshar year is 1.1 Earth years, so your number basically works out.
