To answer the original query though, I never had a particularly strong mental picture, but I imagined David as a pale but muscular young man with unkempt hair, usually in plain utilitarian clothes. 1

The studio could cast him with pretty much any actor besides Shia LaBeouf and I'd be happy. 2

Seana she/her Posted September 4, 2015 Posted September 4, 2015 Dirty-blonde hair, brown eyes, kinda muscular, good with guns, nerdy, and afraid of drowning (because he almost did so in a lake). I'm describing my uncle there, but it fits David really well.
