How Do Guilds Work?

I'm new here, and have been acclimating myself to the different things this place has to offer. I'm curious about the guilds and some of the RP type game play going on in the communities, but haven't really found a cumulative explanation of it all. How does all of that work? Are there any forum posts that go into those details?

The Guilds part of the forum I've only dipped my toes into briefly, so can't comment much about that (except to warn you to only accept offered cookies from people you trust). Under the RP subforum, there's a few different things:

  • Mistborn: The Inquisition (link- Also know as the MBI, it's a high level RP set ~100 years before the events of Misborn 1.  Slow paced, but has a strong focus on writing characters who make sense (how they fit into their world, their background/history, what makes them the person they are at the time of the RP)
  • The Reckoners RPG (link- In the setting of Steelheart/Firefight/Calamity, it seeks to answer the question 'What happened in Oregon when Epics appeared'. Quick paced (well, the numbered questions threads anyway), the forum is divided into 'What happened in...' threads which feature different cities and different epics, and numbered question threads which are home to plotting/planning, character creation, off topic discussion, pugs, upvotes and just general craziness. Also the natural habitat/den/lair of @Kobold King and @TwiLyghtSansSparkles (who each probably  have more up votes than the rest of the forum combined).
  • Sanderson Elimination (link- If you've played any games like Mafia, Werewolf, The Resistance, Two Rooms & a Bomb, or anything with hidden roles and traitor mechanics, it's like that, but with games themed (usually) around Sanderson works. More of a game than a writing exercise, if analysis, people, and/or deception are your thing, we're also keen to find fresh blood. The games themselves have varying levels of RP in them.

There are a number of other RP things run in the forum. The only one I've looked at (and am indeed playing) is @Wyrmhero's Heirs to the Final Empire - players take on the roles of noble houses, starting in the early days of the Final Empire, and guide them through 10 generations. With no true goal, it's a game of exploration. While a lot happens in PM's, public RP is strongly encouraged.

There's also the Social Groups subforum which, last time I checked, was basically free for all role play and silliness.

It's the most chaotic RP section of the forums there is, in that there's basically no planning or general guidelines and the most like a sandbox. Traditionally you only control one character inside of the clans area as well. The whole Social Groups area has been steadily dying from inactivity for several months.
