Oudeis he/him Posted August 11, 2015 Posted August 11, 2015 (edited) Coincidence or Reference? Someone named Syl with a talent called Windrunner. EDIT: Update. Apparently her full given name is Sylvanas Windrunner. So she was already a Syl named Windrunner. Not sure when she was first made but it might predate the book, meaning it's likely a coincidence. ParadoxicalZen he/him Posted August 11, 2015 Posted August 11, 2015 Aye, the Dark Lady made an appearance in Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos when Arthas (corrupted by the influence of Ner'zhul, the then current Lich King) killed her in a duel. Warcraft III was released in 2002 i think. It could have been an influence for brandon perhaps
CabbageHead he/him Posted August 11, 2015 Posted August 11, 2015 Never copped that, good catch. Although, Sylphrena's almost a polar opposite of that character.
dungeonfood he/him Posted August 12, 2015 Posted August 12, 2015 Anybody know if Brandon is a Warcraft III fan? Now that this has come to my attention, I feel like there's no way it's just a coincidence.
Argent he/him Posted August 12, 2015 Posted August 12, 2015 The Windrunners, in the Warcraft universe, are an elven family which includes Sylvanas, Alleria (her elder sister, mostly featured in a few graphic novels), Vareesa (younger sister, seen a little in World of Warcraft), and a few other not-so-notable members. Also, to the best of my knowledge (which borders obsession), Brandon was never a big Warcraft fan. I believe he has played the franchise, or is at least aware of it, but not a lot. Plus, admittedly, "Windrunner" is not such an unusual name to give someone(s) who is known for swiftness. Running with the wind, or running like the wind, are well-known phrases. There is a movie with the same name, there is a Nike jacket line, there is a rifle series known as Windrunner - no, it's far from rare. 2
Ookla the Absent Posted August 12, 2015 Posted August 12, 2015 I doubt Brandon would have done that intentionally, but there may be a connection.
