How do ranks work? Not reputation, the dots under your picture

I have three dots under my picture. My reputation has 3 digits. My post count has 3 digits. 

 

Are these related?

They increase after large post increments.

5 dots - 1000 posts IIRC but that's the only one I know for sure.
