One of my all time favorites is Aslan from C. S. Lewis's Naria series. He so powerful and intimidating, yet kind and gentle. 

 

Another favorite is Anne of Anne of Green Gables. She starts off such a hyper active, impetuous little girl, but with the help of Matthew, Marilla, Gilbert and all her friends she becomes less of a "menace to society".

My first fictional love: Faramir (Lord of the Rings).  Eowyn and Samwise are also favorites from LotR.

Okay,

 

1. Itkovian ---> I really loved him in Memories of Ice. God, I really cried and soiled my book, when he says "I am not over yet". His whole story is amazing. One of the best characters in the whole series.

 

2. Duiker---> He affected me in more than one novel. His dialogues are one of the best in the book Deadhouse Gates, "Children are dying...". Then his recollection of the moments in Deadhouse Gates again, was more painful for me than a rejection. He is the best fictional historian.

 

3. Death---> You just read his parts. His sections are extremely funny, and the way he changes Mort's fate is amazing.

Richard is definitely one of my favorite characters.

Kerbouchard from Loius L'amour's The Walking Drum is a great character too. A jack-of-all trades: scholar, warrior, lover.

Kelsier is great too. I love when good guys have a dark side.

Outside of books, I've always had a soft spot for Freya from Final Fantasy IX.

Oh gosh I can't believe I forgot Wolf Larsen from The Sea-Wolf by Jack London. He is a self-educated genius pirate captain with a serious temper and a fatalist streak. I liked the way he forced the soft main character (a socialite and writer) to toughen up and discover what he is truly capable of.

My favorite fictional character is probably Riku from the kingdom hearts games. Okay not the first game but after that every game he is in, he is awesome. Especially in dream drop distance. I think that his story is great and I would purposely drop to Riku in dream drop distance because he was much more fun than sora

I've never read Sword of Truth, so it's definitely Denna from the Kingkiller Chronicles. *nods * She reminds me so much of this mean girl I knew in college.

 

I agree completely about Eowyn and particularly her scene with the Witch King.  She's one of my all-time favorites, too.  I even put together a makeshift costume for Halloween one year based on her non-fancy dress in the movies.

By non-fancy dress, I'm guessing you mean her armor? Though, in all fairness, I can't hate on her blue dress that much, since the scene in Two Towers where she stands at the hall and the flag breaks off is one of my favourite moments in the trilogy.

 

(And, in case you didn't know- totally unplanned! From how I understand it, the Rohan banner coming loose was an accident, and they decided to run with it, which is amazing.)

 

Also, I want to add that, not only is Warbreaker my favorite Brandon book, Vivenna is my favorite character from it.

That's what I heard, too.  It was probably in one of the extra features on the extended addition DVDs, which my roommate and I would put on as background for crafty weekends.  Wow, that was about ten years ago now.  Crazy!

 

I find Vivenna annoying in the beginning, but it quickly turns into that 'I can see some of myself in her and also love her' sense.  She's very real, and she comes such a long way by the end of the book that you find you can really appreciate her and her development all the more.

...Wow. I feel old now. 

Awesome movies though; I consider them more or less the Star Wars of that generation. I'm a little less... "eager" about the Hobbit films, but then, I think they seem less like three distinct films and more like one SUPER long film in three parts. I'm really hoping Five Armies nails the landing.

 

...And speaking of the Hobbit, I'm going to say that I love Bilbo Baggins.

One of my favorite characters (Non BS) is Nico di Angelo from the Percy Jackson and the Olympians/Heroes of Olympus. Even though the series themselves are somewhat poorly written, Rick Riordan did a very good job of writing this character. It is absolutely amazing that, after everything this character has been through, he is still one of the good guys. He has the potential to be very very evil but he isn't. (I'm being vague so I don't give spoilers).

 

My Favorite BS Characters Are:

Lightsong- because he is funny and sacrifices himself not once, but twice and is protective of Siri even though most of the other Iridescent Tones believe her to be evil and manipulative.

Vin-because she is just such a strong person and I don't think I could get across how incredibly amazing she is as a character

It's okay, I'm still ahead by a few years from what I can tell.  I was in my last year of college when the first LotR film came out and was only off by a couple months for the DVD release, which would have allowed me to use it for a project in a seminar class.  *snap *  I feel the same way about the Hobbit movies...  I will go see the last one because of my dedication but sincerely hope they end it well.

YES.

 

Look, Vivenna is probably my favorite female character in the Cosmere so far... but Vin is definitely someone I'm fond of. Honestly, the way she thought- her paranoia, scanning the situation for trouble, and the fact that those were bad things- reminded me a lot of my own behaviour, so... she was the first character in a long time who I really connected to.

 

Hmm. Actually, random thought; I wonder if these accounts were tallied up whether there would be any kind of split on whether men prefer male characters and women prefer female, or vice-versa. I know, personally, I'm often a lot more inclined to like female protagonists (which is why I try to write them in short stories)... but I also think they can be harder to write well (which is why I don't write very often).
