Is the Rithmatist the first of a trilogy

I haven't read the Rithmatist yet, so please no spoilers in this thread, but does anyone know if the Rithmatist is a stand-alone novel or part of a series.  I've been looking, but haven't seen it anywhere.

It is the first book, but Brandon and Peter aren't sure if the series is going to have two or three books in it (at least, they weren't the last time I heard of it.)
